The American Home Fitness Detroit Goddess Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K

A portion of this event’s proceeds will benefit our featured charity, the American Heart Association: Go Red for Women.

The American Home Fitness Detroit Goddess Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K event was created by women for women. All women, of all ages, of all abilities. First-time racers and experienced marathoners. The young and the young at heart. Join your sisters on beautiful Belle Isle State Park on Sunday, September 18, and celebrate your strength, your beauty, your inner grace… everything that makes you the goddess you are!

The Celebration Starts on Saturday!

Kick off your race weekend with our Renewal by Andersen Women Run the D Expotique at the Cobo Center on Saturday, September 17 from 10 AM to 4 PM. Visit vendors such as Brooks Running, NuStep, Hanson’s Running Shop, Fellow Flowers, Athleta, Tri-Covery, and more… even our own Women Run the D Boutique! Paint and Pour, which claims to offer the most creative night on the town, will be bringing that creativity to our Expotique to teach you to paint! You’ll be able to take home your very own commemorative American Home Fitness Detroit Goddess painting. Our friends at Tri-Covery will also be on hand to help you stretch!

Focused on the race to come? Pick up your race packet at the Expotique … or register to run if you haven’t already done so. You can also stop by and get to know our 2016 Pacer Team. If you miss them at the Expotique, don’t worry… they’ll also be in the Women Run the D Village and just in front of the start area, lined up near the pace signs along the grass.

The festivities continue into Saturday evening with our delicious pre-race pasta dinner, followed by our complimentary yoga PJ party. Share some late-night herbal tea with fellow Women Run the D participants to help you get some zzzZZZz’s before the big day.

HandcyclingGirlGoddesses of All Abilities

For the first time ever in Goddess Racing history, the Detroit Goddess is offering a RIM Foundation Handcycle Division in our 5K, so that Goddesses of all abilities can participate in our event! The Handcycle Division will offer both Para and Quad categories, and participants will start with the half-marathon competitors. We are very excited to welcome our handcycling sisters to Belle Isle!

Join Us Virtually!

Unlike the deities of of days gone by, today’s Goddesses cannot be two places at the same time. If you have a race-day conflict that keeps you from joining us at Belle Isle, no worries! Moved away from the Mitten? Not a problem. Like to sleep in on Sundays? That’s fine, too. You can now participate in the American Home Fitness Detroit Goddess as a virtual racer! You’ll receive the same sweet swag that our race-day participants receive (race swag will be sent out the week following the event), and you can even join your friends who’ll be physically present on a team! Simply pick a date to run or walk, then enjoy your virtual race anywhere, indoors or outdoors. There’s no need to “prove” your race to us, but it would be awesome if you could upload pictures and share your experience on our Facebook page or tag us on your Tweets. To become a virtual racers, select the “Virtual Race” option when you register for the American Home Fitness Detroit Goddess. We look forward to seeing you… in spirit!

Please note: Epic Races does not ship swag to Canada or internationally. If you are a resident of Canada or another country and wish to participate in an Epic Races virtual event, please provide us with a U.S. shipping address.

Make It a Family Affair!

In addition to our half marathon, 10K, and 5K, the American Home Fitness Detroit Goddess has two special awards divisions:

Mother/Daughter
Three Generations of Women

Spend a memorable day on Belle Isle running with your mother, daughter, grandmother, or granddaughter! The family that runs together has fun together, after all, and what better way to show family pride — female pride! — than showing everyone how your family’s women run the D? Participating in these divisions will NOT preclude you from the regular age-group awards. These divisions are in addition to the age-group awards, so be sure to sign up when you register: one mother and one daughter for the Mother/Daughter division, and one grandmother, one mother, and one daughter for the Three Generations of Women award.

For the younger members of the family, there’s our one-mile fun run! This one-mile run is open to all children — boys and girls — ages 14 and under. Our mile runners start after the 5K runners/walkers, and they get to cross the very same finish line as our women running the D! The one-mile fun run is donation based (cash only, please; donations to be made at the race venue). All fun-run donations go to our charity partner, the American Heart Association/Go Red for Women. It’s a great way NewGovCouncilfor Mom’s (and Grandma’s) younger cheering section to get in on the Belle Isle action!

The American Home Fitness Detroit Goddess Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K is part of the Pure Michigan FITness Series of events and is endorsed by the Michigan Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health, and Sports.

Karen DrewMeet our Celebrity Goddesses!

Goddess Racing welcomes a true Detroit Goddess to Belle Isle on September 18: WDIV-Local 4 anchor Karen Drew! Drew, a multiple Emmy and Michigan Association of Broadcasters award-winning journalist, made her mark in Detroit by uncovering government waste, busting a million-dollar lottery winner who remained on welfare, exposing a local school official drinking and driving a school-issued vehicle, revealing a con-artist scheme to scam people out of their money on adoption deals, and uncovering crime trends in local neighborhoods. Drew will serve as the 2016 spokesperson for the Detroit Goddess Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K. Watch for her as she inspires our Goddesses to perform their best and cheers them on at the finish line!

FitzGoddess Racing is also thrilled to announce the return of fitness expert and TV personality Fitz Koehler, M.S.E.S.S.! Fitz served as our vibrant and engaging announcer at the 2015 Detroit Women’s Half Marathon and 5K and will be joining us as the official 2016 Goddess Racing Series announcer! Along with teaching to millions in person via corporate speaking engagements and seminars in over a dozen countries, Fitz has promoted fitness through every avenue of mass media: books, television, films, radio, magazines, journals, and online and is the founder of Fitzness and of the Morning Mile, a nationwide program aimed at improving children’s fitness. In addition to serving as our race announcer, Fitz will also present two clinics, both on Saturday, September 17: Cross Training for Runners at noon and Oh My Goddess! Pajama Party Pep Talk at 8 PM. To register for these clinics, click here. Welcome back, Fitz!

Inspiring Assistance

You’ve decided to run the 5K or 10K… or perhaps take on the half, but your motivation to practice isn’t quite where you’d like it to be. Relax! This is perfectly normal, especially when we can be so easily overwhelmed by our family and work responsibilities. Our sponsor, Hanson’s Running Shop, is ready to help! Join the Hanson’s gang every Wednesday at 6:30 PM for a FREE group run from their Utica store. All levels and abilities are welcome! For more information about training runs, check out the Hanson’s web site.

Divine Friendship

Epic Races recognizes the compassion, support, and friendship that exists between a runner and their I Run 4 buddy. To help your buddy feel more special, we’ve created a race add-on so that your buddy can receive his or her own American Home Fitness Detroit Goddess finisher’s medal. We applaud those Goddesses who dedicate their miles to buddies with special needs whose conditions span the spectrum from total physical disability to developmental delays to autism spectrum disorders and more. Look for the IR4 add-on when you register, or log into Run Sign Up to manage your registration and add the IR4 add-on. Goddesses who registered with the IR4 add-on can pick up their buddies’ medals at the Awards table. For more information on the I Run 4 program or to be matched with a buddy of your own, visit the I Run 4 web site.

Our Runners Go Red!GRFW_AHA_LIW_H_SP_cmyk

There’s a lot of talk about inequality between men and women, but there is one area in particular where women are leading in record numbers: heart disease. It’s the No. 1 killer of women and is more deadly than all forms of cancer. But there’s a leadership role just waiting for women like you to pounce on: leading the charge to end this deadly foe once and for all.

This is why we have chosen Go Red for Women as our charity partner. A portion of each American Home Fitness Detroit Goddess entry fee will go to Go Red for Women®, a passionate, emotional, social initiative designed to empower women to take charge of their heart health. To learn more, please visit www.GoRedForWomen.org. To further your knowledge about heart health and how to respond in case of an emergency, visit OnlineAHA.org.

A Special Kind of Lady

DMC always thereAlong with the Detroit Medical Center, Go Red for Women® and Fellow Flowers, the American Home Fitness Detroit Goddess is searching for a few amazing women: runners or walkers of any level that embody the qualities of a Detroit Medical Center (DMC) Epic Heart Hero.

What is a DMC Epic Heart Hero?  A DMC Epic Heart Hero is a woman who has come back from a heart issue, has taken control of her health, and refuses to let this stop her. She approaches life with passion and strength, as she knows too well how short life can be. She embraces a healthy lifestyle and she teaches and helps others in their quest to get healthy. A DMC Epic Heart Hero knows the risk factors for heart disease and stroke, and she takes action to minimize the risk. She educates others about these risk factors to help them take control of their heart health. A DMC Epic Heart Hero isn’t perfect, and she might not be fast, but she is definitely determined!

What will a DMC Epic Heart Hero do? She will run or walk the American Home Fitness Detroit Goddess.  She serves as a role model for all our runners and walkers with her amazing story. In exchange for sharing her story, a DMC Epic Heart Hero will receive free entry to the American Home Fitness Detroit Goddess (her choice of distance) and receive complimentary gear from our sponsors. In addition, a DMC Epic Heart Hero will appear at the Women Run the D Expotique and share her story with the media upon request.

To learn more about our DMC Epic Heart Heroes or to nominate yourself or someone you know to be a 2016 DMC Epic Heart Hero, click here for our DMC Epic Heart Heroes page or here for the online nomination form.

FAQs:

Q. I signed up for the 5K but I think the 10K is more my distance. Can I transfer to the 10K?
A. You can switch from the 5K to the 10K — or from the 10K to the half or from any of our three distances to another — by logging in to your Run Sign Up account, clicking the My Registered Races button, clicking View/Edit by Detroit Goddess, then clicking the Transfer Event button and following the onscreen instructions. If you are transferring to a longer distance, you will be charged for the difference in price between the events. NOTE: the deadline to switch events is Sunday, September 11.

Q. Can I transfer my registration to someone else?
A. Yes! Log into your Run Sign Up account, click the My Registered Races button, click View/Edit by Detroit Goddess, then click Transfer to Another Runner and follow the onscreen instructions. There is a $15 charge to transfer your registration to another event, as well as a Run Sign Up processing fee. NOTE: the deadline to transfer your registration to another person is Sunday, September 4.

Q. I can no longer attend. How do I get a refund?
A. By registering for an Epic Races event, you have purchased a ticket to participate in one of the most exhilarating and enjoyable races in Southeast Michigan. As with a ticket to any sports or entertainment event, there are no refunds if you are unable to attend.

Q. I can no longer attend. Can I defer my registration to next year?
A. Yes! To defer your registration to 2017, email us at info@epicraces.com. NOTE: The deadline to defer your registration is August 8, 2016.

Q. I can no longer attend. Can I get my race shirt and medal and bib sent to me?
A. We are happy to send you your race shirt and bib; please send a self-addressed, large shipping envelope with $5 affixed postage and a note with your name, race, and event distance to us at Epic Races, 600 S. Wagner Road, Ann Arbor, MI, 48103 (please check our Policies page for full details). However, our finisher's medals are reserved for those who complete the race.

Q. I signed up to run a virtual race the same day as the Detroit Goddess. Do I need to register and pay for both?
A. Yes! If you plan on participating in the Detroit Goddess, you must register and pay in order to be allowed on the race course, regardless of whether or not you are also participating in a virtual event.

Q. Where do I park on race morning?
A. Parking will be available at Belle Isle State Park. Please note that you will need a State of Michigan Recreation Passport to enter or you will be charged an entrance fee to the park. For more details, visit http://www.michigan.gov/DNR.

Q. What happens if it's raining on race day?
A. The Detroit Goddess will be held, rain, snow, or shine. Please be sure to dress accordingly for the weather.

Q. How many aid stations will there be?
A. There will be one aid station on the 5K course; we are currently determining how many aid stations will be on the 10K and half-marathon courses.

Q. Are jogging strollers allowed?
A. Yes! However, participants with jogging strollers must start at the back of the pack with the walkers and can only jog at a maximum pace of 12:00 minutes/mile; participants racing with a stroller may be disqualified. Please visit our Policies page at http://www.epicraces.com/policies for full details.

Q. Are dogs allowed?
A. No, dogs are not allowed on any of the event course due to safety, security, and insurance reasons.

Q. Are headphones/ear buds allowed?
A. Yes, but we strongly encourage that you consider participating without portable music. This way, you will be able to hear the course marshals, as well as the spectators cheering for you. You will also be able to hear your fellow runners calling out that they are passing you.

Q. When will results be posted and where?
A. You'll find the results by clicking on the blue Results button at the top of this page. Results will be posted within 6 hours after the race ends.

Q. Can someone else pick up my race packet for me?
A. Yes! You can have someone pick up your packet for you if you are unable to make it to packet pick-up.

Q. My race shirt doesn't fit. Can I exchange it?
A. Yes! However, exchanges can only be done after the race and there is no guarantee of size.

Q. I left before results were posted and I won an award! How do I get it?
A. Congratulations! Finisher's and overall awards will be available to pick up at a location to be determined shortly after the race.

Q. My daughter and I want to participate in the Mother/Daughter division. How do we register?
A. During the registration process, you will be asked if you wish to create a team. Click Create/Join a team and use the pull-down menu to select the Mother/Daughter (or 3 Generations) division. Create your team, then add your team mates. Please note that you both must run the same distance (both of you doing the 5K, both of you doing the 10K, or both of you doing the half marathon; no mixed-distance teams).

Q. We already registered. Is it too late to join the Mother/Daughter division?
A. You can register for the Mother/Daughter (or 3 Generations) division until online registration closes at 4 PM the Thursday before the race. If you have already registered, simply log on to your Run Sign Up account, click My Registered Races, click View-Edit under Detroit Goddess, then click the blue Group/Team button and create a team under Mother/Daughter (or 3 Generations). You can then add your teammates.

Q. Can men participate in this race?
A. The Detroit Goddess welcomes male participants, as long as they participate in the spirit of the event (celebrating women's running and supporting/encouraging our DMC Epic Heart Heroes). Male participants are not eligible for awards.

I cannot complete this registration because it requires me to alllow them to sent me text messages. I do not want any text messages!!!

    • Eva April 8, 2015 at 7:15 AM #

Hello Pat! I apologize for any confusion. The text message question is an option- you are certainly welcome to leave it blank. The reasons we would sent text messages would to let participants know about a possible weather related delay in start time, or any other unforseen change in plans. For a triathlon we use it to send out the water temperature morning of the race. Again, this is an opt-in feature, certainly not mandatory. Please let us know if we can answer any other questions for you.

What is the cost to be a Sponsor and what will it allow a company to advertise?

    • Eva July 8, 2015 at 6:57 AM #

Thanks for your email, Dianne. I will send a sponsorship packet to your email address.

  3. Heather July 8, 2015 at 1:16 PM #

Does the women’s fitted race tee size xl really fit like suggested size 6-8 like it said on the site? When I registered due to the sizing I chose xl but I don’t want a huge shirt that is going to be way to big to wear handed to me at the expo… Thanks!

    • ana July 8, 2015 at 6:10 PM #

Yes, the sizes are correct as listed. The women’s fitted tees are VERY fitted.

  4. Laura July 22, 2015 at 9:54 AM #

Are there hotels you recommend staying at that have shuttle to the race? Thanks for your help with this. Very excited for this race! Laura

    • ana July 22, 2015 at 11:01 AM #

Yes! Laura, our host hotel is the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center and we will have shuttles taking runners to Belle Isle from there. You’ll find all that information under Hotel Information on the event page.

  5. Nancy Gomez August 4, 2015 at 3:40 PM #

I am not able to participate in the 2015 race. Is it possible to move my registration to 2016?

    • ana August 4, 2015 at 3:52 PM #

We’re sorry to hear that you won’t be able to join us on Belle Isle next month! You’ll find all the details on how to transfer your registration or request a partial refund on our Policies page at http://epicraces.com/about/policies/.

  6. Jackie August 14, 2015 at 12:12 PM #

Will there be a sneak peak of the awesome medals? 😉

    • ana August 14, 2015 at 1:07 PM #

When we have them ready, we most certainly will provide a peek! ????

  7. Cristina August 19, 2015 at 2:42 PM #

If I plan to walk the 5k, am I able to bring my girls in the jogging stroller?

    • ana August 19, 2015 at 3:21 PM #

Strollers with children inside them are indeed allowed! You will need to start at the back of the 5K group, with runners and walkers ahead.

      • Cristin August 19, 2015 at 4:28 PM #

No problem at all with starting in the back! Thanks for the reply, I’m excited to bring my girls this year!

  8. Leslie Miller August 27, 2015 at 8:13 AM #

Is there a deferral option for the half marathon?

  9. Renee September 1, 2015 at 10:35 PM #

I am registered for the 5K and have been registered since July 28, 2015. I ran this race last year and loved it. I have been diagnosed with Pneumonia (I have documents to prove it) and will not be able to run the race in Detroit ( I live in southern Ohio and travel in for the race). I’m not asking for a refund but I was wondering if I could switch my registration to the virtual race so that I could still be apart of the race when my health returns. Please let me know if this is possible and I am willing to prove my sickness. Thank you.

    • ana September 2, 2015 at 4:48 PM #

Renee, absolutely! Our promotions coordinator had pneumonia for the entire month of April, so we totally get how harsh this can be. It looks like you are already switched to the Virtual 5K, so you should be set! Let us know if you need our help with anything else, and rest, rest, rest! Feel better soon!

      • Tina September 14, 2015 at 8:20 PM #

how do i make the switch to virtual?

  10. Lisa September 4, 2015 at 6:56 PM #

Hi, if I registered for the virtual 5K, is it possible to change that (pay the difference) so I can run at the actual Belle Isle event?

    • ana September 4, 2015 at 7:17 PM #

Absolutely! Just log into your Run Sign Up account, click on My Registered Races, and find the American Home Fitness Detroit Women’s Half Marathon & 5K. Click “View/Edit Registration” and you’ll find the option to switch events. Run Sign Up will help you take care of any balance that is due. 🙂

  11. Nicole September 4, 2015 at 8:24 PM #

Where is the parking located for the day of the race? Is there going to be parking available on belle isle?

    • ana September 4, 2015 at 11:35 PM #

Nicole, Belle Isle has huge parking lots! You’ll be directed to them once you cross the bridge into the park. For more details, please see our Race-Day Guide.

  12. Rebecca September 8, 2015 at 8:36 AM #

Hello! I am trying to change my registration from 1/2 marathon to 5k – I’ve been to runsignup but see nothing about “manage my registration” I’m not sure if the time has passed or if I am just missing something:)

    Thanks!

    • ana September 8, 2015 at 9:16 AM #

Hi Rebecca! First, sign in to your account at Run Sign Up. Once you’ve logged in, scroll to the bottom of your page. You should see the Manage My Registrations link there. Click that; a list of your races will come up. Find the Women’s Half and click View/Edit Registration next to the race’s name. You should be able to modify your registration from there. Let us know if you encounter any problems!

  13. Gina September 9, 2015 at 11:17 AM #

Hi, I was wondering if we needed to change our registration in order to do the 5k virtually instead of joining the festivities? Due to a medical condition, I can no longer run, but would love to partake still at home. I checked out the RunSignUp.com, but didn’t see a way to change my registration.

    Thanks!

    • Eva September 9, 2015 at 11:23 AM #

I’m sorry to hear you won’t be able to join us. Please send your registration info to eva@epicraces.com and I’ll make that change for you.

  14. Patricia September 12, 2015 at 9:12 AM #

I’m not able to do this race because of a stress fracture in my foot. I tried to follow the steps to change my registration to another race, but it doesn’t show any upcoming runs for me under my runsignup account. I would like to just transfer it to the half for next year if you are doing it again.

    • Eva September 13, 2015 at 7:49 AM #

I’m really sorry to hear about your stress fracture. Unfortunately, at this point you are not able to switch to next year’s race. You are able to switch to an event within this race. Perhaps you would like to switch to the virtual race and do your run when you are healed?

  15. Courtney September 14, 2015 at 12:19 PM #

Is a map somewhere that lists where there will be port-a-potties and gatorade along the course?

  16. Lily September 14, 2015 at 2:34 PM #

Are there pacers for the half marathon on Sunday? If so, what are the times for the different pace groups? THANK YOU 🙂

    • ana September 14, 2015 at 2:46 PM #

Yes! You’ll find the entire pace-team line up in the event’s Race-Day Guide!

  17. Tina September 14, 2015 at 8:24 PM #

my registration is under Imanathlete and not the run sign up website. The Detroit race doesn’t come up?

    • ana September 14, 2015 at 9:33 PM #

Tina, if you originally registered for this race through IMAthlete, we will need to make the switch for you. Do you wish to be transferred to the virtual 5K or the virtual half? Please let us know!

  18. Marcia September 15, 2015 at 9:31 PM #

I thought I posted a question on here but I don’t see it now. Should I repost the question or will you be responding via email?

    • ana September 15, 2015 at 11:22 PM #

I registered online for the actual race on Wednesday but don’t see my name anywhere? I haven’t received any confirmation yet either. I’ve been training for a year and begging my friend to do it with me…how can I make sure that I’m in and registered?!

Melissa, please check your in box for an email from me regarding your registration! Thanks!

ok… thanks for your response, Ana… Another question then, do we still recv a finishers medal and shirt at this late entry?

Sally, yes! You will still receive a finisher’s medal! We cannot guarantee shirt sizes this close to race day, however… it will be first come, first served for the extras we have in stock.

I am going to the Expo tomorrow, Saturday, Sept 19, and will be picking up my packet and packets for two friends. I have the confirmation emails for my registration and also for the two friends. One of the friends just called me to say that she had read that I also need to bring a copy of each friend’s driver’s license to pick up their packets. Is that true? Thanks so much!

    • ana September 18, 2015 at 11:18 AM #

Yes, you need a copy of their ID in order to pick up packets for friends. You’ll find all those details under Packet Pick-Up in our Race-Day Guide. 🙂
