The A2 Turkey Trot

November 19 @ 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Event Navigation

Think “November” and visions of roast turkey undoubtedly come to mind. Epic Races invites you to envision — and experience — a totally different take on that famous fall bird with the A2 Turkey Trot. Join us on Saturday, November 19 at Hudson Mills Metropark for this annual autumn tradition and enjoy a late-season run that is fun for the whole family!

Let’s Talk Turkey!

The A2 Turkey Trot features three different distances to whet your racing appetite: a 5K loop around scenic Hudson Mills, a 10K course comprised of two 5K loops, and a mile fun run for those who want just a taste of our Turkey Trot.

For those who prefer a more sizable portion, there’s our Iron Turkey option: run both the 5K and 10K, a total of 9.3 miles! If your feet love gobbling up the miles, then our Iron Turkey challenge is ideal for you! Don’t forget: the A2 Turkey Trot is walker friendly!

A Cornucopia of Athlete Treats

All of our A2 Turkey Trot participants receive:

  • race chip timing with results posted within 6 hours (please note: the mile is not a timed event)
  • a fabulous finisher’s medal
  • a high-quality, super-soft T-shirt
  • delicious post-race snacks
  • free downloads of their race photos, taken by Greg Sadler of Greg Sadler Photography
  • a Virtual Race Bag featuring offers and discounts from our sponsors!

In addition, our Iron Turkey participants will receive a special Iron Turkey participant award. A special bonus for our Iron Turkey participants: the 5K and 10K medals magnetically interlock to create the Iron Turkey medal!

All of our participants and spectators will also have the opportunity to enjoy the musical rhythms of the Gratitude Steel Band, who will be joining us at the A2 Turkey Trot to share their sunshine-filled sounds.

NewGovCouncilPlease join us prior to the event start for yoga with Marie Brooks from Breathe Yoga and get your mind and body race ready!

The A2 Turkey Trot has been endorsed by the Michigan Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health, and Sports. All events are part of the Pure Michigan FITness Series. For details on the Pure Michigan FITness Series and to take part in the Pure Michigan FITness Series Challenge, click here.

Keeping Pace

Looking to PR or finish by a certain time? Our friends from the Ann Arbor Running Company will have a pace team ready to help you meet your goals! Look for them in the starting area; they’ll be holding signs showing which pace they’ll be running. Note: it’s perfectly fine to change from one pace to another while out on the course. After all, it’s your race!

Epic’s Awesome Autumn!

Register for the Scare for CARE 5K and Mummy Mile, the Hot Cocoa Classic 5K and Marshmallow Mountain Mile, and the A2 Turkey Trot by Sunday, October 30 and receive a totally Epic knit running hat!

Help Our Community at Thanksgiving Time

Food Gatherersfood-gatherers-logo, the featured charity for the A2 Turkey Trot, exists to alleviate hunger and eliminate its causes in our community. They are committed to distributing safe, usable, nutritious, and appealing food to 150 non-profit agencies and programs providing direct food assistance in the form of hot meals, nutritious snacks, or emergency groceries to low-income adults, seniors, and children in Washtenaw County. Food Gatherers rescues food that would otherwise go to waste from more than 300 local sources including food retailers, restaurants, and food wholesalers. Food Gatherers regards the gifts of food and money that they receive as a sacred trust to be administered for the most effective hunger relief possible. As you register for the A2 Turkey Trot, please consider making a donation to Food Gatherers and be sure to bring a donation of non-perishable food or fresh produce to their collection area at the A2 Turkey Trot on race day, Saturday, November 19. All donations collected on Saturday at the A2 Turkey Trot will be distributed in time for the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday.

Need more of an incentive to donate to Food Gatherers? When you give a gift of food, you receive a gift in return: Donate 10 canned items and receive a vintage Epic Races race T-shirt! For 20 cans, you’ll receive three shirts and for 30, five shirts! One item of fresh produce (a head of cabbage, a squash, a bunch of radishes, a pint of cherry tomatoes, etc.) may be substituted for one canned item.

Join the Walk for Willy

Interested in walking the A2 Turkey Trot 5K? Consider joining the Walk for Willy! The Walk for Willy will be held as part of our 5K in memory and celebration of William Miller. Friends, relatives, and everybody can join the Walk for Willy team; the team will walk the course together on race day. Each Walk for Willy participant will receive a hat or headband and a pin commemorating this memorial walk, and Epic Races will donate 15% of the team’s registration fees to the C.S. Mott Bone-Marrow Transplant unit. To register as a Walk for Willy team member, go to https://runsignup.com/Race/Register/RaceGroup-314089?raceId=35297.

Thanksgiving is a Time to Share…

We applaud those runners who dedicate their miles to buddies with special needs whose conditions span the spectrum from total physical disability to developmental delays to autism spectrum disorders and more. Look for the IR4 add-on when you register, or log into Run Sign Up to manage your registration and add the IR4 add-on. A. You can switch from the 5K to the mile — or from any one distance to another — by logging in to your Run Sign Up account, clicking the My Registered Races button, clicking View/Edit by the A2 Turkey Trot, then clicking the Transfer Event button and following the onscreen instructions. If you are transferring to the longer distance from a shorter distance, you will be charged for the difference in price between the events. Q. Can I transfer my registration to someone else?
A. Yes! Log into your Run Sign Up account, click the My Registered Races button, click View/Edit by the A2 Turkey Trot, then click Transfer to Another Runner and follow the onscreen instructions. There is a $15 charge to transfer your registration to another event, as well as a Run Sign Up processing fee. NOTE: the deadline to transfer your registration to another person is Saturday, November 5.

Q. I can no longer attend. How do I get a refund?
A. By registering for an Epic Races event, you have purchased a ticket to participate in one of the most exhilarating and enjoyable races in Southeast Michigan. As with a ticket to any sports or entertainment event, there are no refunds if you are unable to attend.

Q. I can no longer attend. Can I defer my registration to next year!
A. Yes! To defer your registration to 2017, email us at info@epicraces.com. NOTE: The deadline to defer your registration is October 8.

Q. I can no longer attend. Can I get my race shirt and medal and bib sent to me?
A. We are happy to send you your race shirt and bib; please send a self-addressed, large padded shipping envelope (minimum envelope size is 13" X 16") with $5 affixed postage and a note stating your name, race, distance, and shirt size to us at Epic Races, 600 S. Wagner Road, Ann Arbor, MI, 48103. However, our finisher's medals are reserved for those who complete the race.

Q. Where do I park on race morning?
A. Parking will be available at Hudson Mills Metropark. Please note that there is a vehicle entry fee of $10 unless your car displays an annual Metroparks permit.

Q. What happens if it's raining on race day?
A. The A2 Turkey Trot will be held, rain, snow, or shine. Please be sure to dress accordingly for the weather.

Q. How many aid stations will there be?
A. There will be one aid station on the 5K course (which 10K runners will pass twice and Iron Turkey runners will pass three times).

Q. Are jogging strollers allowed?
A. Yes! However, participants with jogging strollers must start at the back of the pack with the walkers and cannot race. They can only jog at a maximum pace of 12:00 minutes/mile. Participants are expected to maintain control of their strollers at all times, for the safety of their child and their fellow participants. Should a participant race with a stroller, she or he may be stopped by a race official and might face disqualification. See our Policies page at http://www.epicraces.com/policies for full details.

Q. Are dogs allowed?
A. No, dogs are not allowed on any of the event course due to safety, security, and insurance reasons.

Q. Are headphones/ear buds allowed?
A. Yes, but we strongly encourage that you consider participating without portable music. This way, you will be able to hear the course marshals, as well as the spectators cheering for you. You will also be able to hear your fellow runners calling out that they are passing you.

Q. When will results be posted and where?
A. You'll find the results by clicking on the blue Results button at the top of this page. Results will be posted within 12 hours after the race ends.

Q. Can someone else pick up my race packet for me?
A. Yes! You can have someone pick up your packet for you if you are unable to make it to packet pick-up.

Q. My race shirt doesn't fit. Can I exchange it?
A. Yes! However, exchanges can only be done after the race and there is no guarantee of size.

Q. I left before results were posted and I won an award! How do I get it?

Will this race be a part of the Michigan Fitness Challenge series?

    • Ana June 13, 2016 at 9:23 AM #

We’ll be applying for recognition this week!

I just want to clarify, participants in the one mile event DO receive finisher medals in this race? I was looking into races for my daughter–the Scare for Care race looks fun, but does not have medals for the 1 milers. She likes collecting her race medals, so it might be a reason for her to choose this one over the Halloween race.

Hi Beth! Epic Races will as of today be offering finisher’s medals at all its mile events. The web sites do not reflect this yet, though!

Thank you–that is wonderful to know! Are the one mile medals generally the same as the 5k/10k medals or are they usually different/smaller?

        • ana September 26, 2016 at 9:45 AM #

They will be the same medal that the 5K and 10K receive.
