Event Planning and Marketing Internship
Position Summary
Epic Races is seeking a motivated recent graduate or current student to fill the position of Marketing and Community Engagement Intern. They will contribute to real marketing strategies and campaigns, conduct pivotal research and have their voice heard by the rest of the team, including the CEO. The internship will provide an excellent baseline of knowledge for all marketing areas, including product creation, pricing strategies, placement and a heavy focus on promotion.
This position will be integral in helping Epic Races achieve its mission of professionally managing safe and fun endurance events that appeal to any level of fitness or athletic ability, are zero-waste, raise money and awareness for important causes, and make each participant feel like a champion.
Job Responsibilities:
· Conduct research as assigned by director on industry trends, and present findings to supervisors
· Observe and assist the director with campaign strategies
· Participate regularly in brainstorming sessions for the development of marketing campaigns, and take detailed notes of meetings
· Own social media accounts, including the initial strategy creation and daily posting and engagement activities
· Research, plan and execute marketing campaigns June – August under the direction and supervision of the director
· Conduct outreach to local clubs to increase awareness of events
· Help update maintain event registration pages and website with promotional assets
· Carry out administrative and data entry-related tasks, and maintain organized files for marketing team
Job Skills & Qualifications
Required:
· Completing or have completed a degree in a related field such as business, public relations or journalism
· Passion for learning and growing in the marketing field
· Demonstrated communication and creative skills (educational examples accepted)
· Ability to work well on a team
· Excellent oral and written communication skills, with ability to communicate with diverse populations
· Professional demeanor
· Excellent computer skills
· Experience using social media for advertising
· Well organized with attention to detail and ability to carry out tasks independently
· Ability to meet deadlines
· Ability to handle long workdays including physical labor
Preferred:
· Past internships in marketing
· Familiarity with endurance sports
· Experience with event management
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who takes initiative and follows and improves upon operational processes with strong attention to detail and good communication around timelines and completion. They will have strong oral and written communication skills, be a solid team player with a positive attitude, represent the company professionally, and be able to ask for help or clarification when needed to produce the best results.
This is a part-time position with some flexibility. Due to the nature of our events, it requires late night and early morning hours for event production as well as work-related communication outside of traditional business hours. We strive to create a reasonable balance between work and personal time. Comp time is offered primarily in the off-season to offset the intense time required during peak season.
Compensation & Vacation Summary
· This is a seasonal, part-time, 25-hours-per-week position with an hourly pay of $16 per hour
· June – August
· Flex time available

Volunteer Coordinator
Position summary
Epic Races is seeking a motivated professional to serve as Volunteer Coordinator. They will report to the CEO and will fulfill the operational volunteer needs of the events produced by Epic Races. The role of the Volunteer Coordinator is to assist with recruitment, registration, communications, and administration within the volunteer program.
The goal of the volunteer program is to recruit, register, educate, train, empower, manage, track, recognize and retain volunteers in order to fulfill operational needs of the event.
The employee will be integral in helping Epic Races achieve its mission of professionally managing safe and fun endurance events that appeal to any level of fitness or athletic ability, are zero-waste, raise money and awareness for important causes, and make each participant feel like a champion.
Job Responsibilities
- Communicate with Race Director and Course Director to understand volunteer needs for each event
- Manage electronic volunteer sign-up and database
- Collaborate with CEO to recruit volunteers using contacts from previous years and community outreach
- Communicate with volunteers via email and phone if necessary to be sure they understand duties
- Implement appropriate training and education with volunteers so that they can be successful in their positions
- Meet volunteers race day to check in, distribute supplies, and confirm they understand duties
- Work directly with course director to ensure all spots are covered
- Document volunteer program processes and develop guidelines
- Manage volunteer reward program
- Schedule pre-race volunteer training meetings for Ann Arbor Marathon
- Work as part of “race crew” at all events lending a hand where needed
Education Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Communication, Social Services, Business Administration, or Physical Education / Health & Human Performance or directly related experience preferred, but not required.

Lifeguards
Description: We are hiring certified lifeguards for all of our open water and triathlon events which can be found at www.epicraces.com. Pay is $50 for the first 2 hours and $20 each additional hour. Most events will be less than 2 hours with the exception of Swim to the Moon and Battle of Waterloo. Opportunity to stay after the swim portion of the event to work additional hours. Apply here
