Leave work early and hang out and visit the Session Room to pick up your packet on Friday, March 13 between 3 – 6 p.m. All tall pours of Short’s Beer will be $1 off for all Waterloo G & G race participants!
To sum that up:
Packet Pickup will be at The Session Room
3685 Jackson Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48103
3:00 – 6:00 p.m.
Yes, we know that time is not all that accommodating for everybody, but that’s what we’ve got for Friday. If you can’t make it, you can pick up your packet race morning at the race site from 8:00 a.m. – 9:45 a.m.
A State Park permit, or Recreation Passport is needed to enter Waterloo State Recreation Area. A permit costs $11 per year for Michigan residents; out-of-state residents will be required to purchase a daily permit for $9 or an annual permit for $31. If you come to the park on a bike (or on roller skates, skateboard, horse, or walking), you will not need to pay for a daily permit.
Michigan residents are not able to purchase the daily permit, only the annual permit for $11. Michigan residents who checked “YES” for the Recreation Passport when they renewed their license plate already possess a Recreation Passport: it’s the two tiny Ps printed at the top and bottom of your license-plate sticker, as well as the words “Recreation Passport” on your registration. Epic Races is thrilled to have our wonderful state park system for our events, for training, and sometimes just to visit and enjoy. These permits are how our parklands are supported.
The park rangers will have in-state and out-of-state permits available for purchase. If, for some reason, you park your car without a permit, you will receive what appears to be a ticket on your car. It is not a ticket; it is a notice. Please take the notice to the entry gate and pay the daily or annual fee. Please direct any questions to the DNR.
To purchase a Recreation Passport, please visit the Michigan DNR customer-service center.
The race will be a gun start.
We will be using handlebar-mounted race numbers and timing chips. Individual timing tags are affixed to the back of each race number. Leave the tags on the back of your race number and securely fasten your race number to your handlebars so that it is clearly visible, with the race number facing forward. For video instructions on how to attach your race number to your handlebars, click here.
Race Number Quick Tips:
- Race number must be clearly visible on the front of your handlebars.
- Race number must not be trimmed down!
- Race numbers are not obstructed or covered by anything.
- Race number is unaltered and unmodified (do not fold, wrinkle, or alter the number in any way or remove the timing tag)
- Race number is non-transferable and must be used by the person to whom it is assigned.

Keep Our Roads and Parklands Clean
Thanks to its partnership with the Michigan DNR, Waterloo G & G is fortunate to have the beauty of Waterloo State Rec Area as its spectacular setting. Please be respectful of this incredible wilderness area and abide by this rule of thumb: Take only memories and leave only tire tracks. If you accumulate any sort of trash — aid-station cups, energy-gel packets, tubes, etc. — please stow these away carefully so that they do not litter the course and landscape. Littering on course roads is a fineable offense and may result in disqualification.
For your convenience, a number of portable toilets will be placed near the race staging area for use before and after the race. Participants are requested to respect the surrounding private and public property by using the portable toilets provided. Please use these portable toilets and help us reflect well with the Michigan DNR and with the residents who live along the Waterloo G & G course.
There will be one hydration station on the race course, by the Discovery Center on Bush Road. Friends and family are very welcome to cheer on their cyclists from here!
Post-race beer will be sponsored by Short’s Brewing Company and the Waterloo Natural History Association. First beer is on us, all beer after that will be poured with a suggested donation of $5 to the Waterloo Natural History Association.
We will have light snacks, Gatorade, and water available at the finish line. Ray’s Red Hots will be on site for purchase. Their yummy menu, including vegetarian options, is below.
