Welcome, Detroit Goddesses! We’re thrilled that you’ll be joining us for the American Home Fitness Detroit Women’s Half Marathon, 10K, & 5K. Read on for all the important information you’ll need to help you get ready for the big day: Sunday, September 17. Packet Pick-Up/Race-Weekend Registration

Packet Pick-Up:

We’ve got two opportunities for you to get your Women Run the D goods:

  • Saturday, September 16 from 10 AM to 4 PM at the Women Run the D Expotique at the Detroit Boat Club, East Picnic Way, Detroit, MI 48207. The Detroit Boat Club is the oldest yachting club in the United States, established in 1839. It is located next to Belle Isle State Park.
  • Sunday, September 17 from 6 AM to 7:30 AM at Belle Isle State Park (prior to the race).

You may pick up packets for a friend or family member, but please let her know that you are picking up her race materials so there’s no confusion! Goddesses picking up their packets on Saturday at the Expotique will also receive a special athlete’s goodie bag!

The American Home Fitness Detroit Women’s Half Marathon, 10K, & 5K will be held at Belle Isle State Park, Detroit, MI 48207. For directions to Belle Isle, click here.

 

Shuttle Service

Participants staying at our host hotel, The Henry in Dearborn, can take the free shuttle to the venue on race-day morning. Shuttle boarding will be located outside the main hotel lobby. Shuttle departure times and sign-up link will be posted shortly.

Please note that shuttle service is only for race participants who are guests at The Henry and you must reserve your seat by midnight on Thursday, September 14; there are no race-weekend shuttle reservations. Seats are limited! In order to board, you must show your bib number and give your name to our shuttle volunteer.

Details on shuttle service from Belle Isle to The Henry will be posted shortly.

 

Entry to Belle Isle State Park

As a Department of Natural Resources property, Belle Isle State Park requires a State of Michigan Recreation Passport for entry. What is a Recreation Passport? When Michigan residents check YES for the Recreation Passport when renewing a Michigan license plate with the Secretary of State, they gain access to more than 100 state parks, hundreds of miles of pathways, and much more. Learn more about these sites at www.michigan.gov/recsearch. In addition, buying a Recreation Passport means saying YES to protecting Michigan’s natural resources for future generations and to supporting recreation opportunities in municipal parks and trails through a grant program funded by your Recreation Passport purchase.

recpassportMichigan Residents: If you did not purchase a Recreation Passport upon renewing your license plates, you will need to purchase one for $11. Michigan residents may not purchase the daily permit. You can bring your registration to a Secretary of State branch office at any time to pay the $11 and receive a replacement license-plate tab with two small P’s, indicating that you purchased the Recreation Passport. You can also purchase a window sticker for $11 at a state park or Customer Service Center. The sticker should be placed on the inside lower- right side of the passenger window. The Recreation Passport is valid until your next vehicle-plate renewal date.

Out-of-State Participants: You will be required to purchase a daily permit for $9 or a annual permit for $31. You can purchase an annual pass in advance at www.michigan.gov/estore, or buy an annual or daily pass in person at a state park.

The park rangers will have in-state and out-of-state permits available for purchase. If, for some reason, you park your car without a permit, you will receive what appears to be a ticket on your car. It is not a ticket; it is a notice. Please take the notice to the entry gate and pay the daily or annual fee. Please direct any questions to the DNR.

Epic Races is thrilled to have our wonderful state park system for our events, for training, and to just visit and enjoy. These permits is how our parklands are supported.

Saturday, September 16

10:00 AM — The Women Run the D Expotique opens at the Detroit Boat Club, East Picnic Way, Detroit, MI 48207.

10:00 AM — Packet Pick-Up and Race-Weekend Registration open

4:00 PM — The Women Run the D Expotique, Packet Pick-Up, and Race-Weekend Registration close

 

Sunday, September 17

6:00 AM — Packet Pick-Up and Race-Day Registration open at Belle Isle State Park ($95 half marathon, $70 10K, $50 5K; cash only for race-weekend registration if available)

7:15 AM — Gear Check opens

7:30 AM — Packet Pick-Up and Race-Day Registration close

7:30 AM — Massage/stretching by Tri-Covery opens in Goddess Village

7:30 AM — Pre-Race Warm Up

7:45 AM — Half Marathon and 10K line up by the finish-line arch

8:00 AM — Half Marathon and 10K start

8:00 AM — Handcycle and 5K participants line up by the balloon towers

8:15 AM — Handcycle and 5K start

9:00 AM — Post-Race Party begins, featuring water by Absopure, wraps with Flatout Bread, free beer (for those 21 and older) from Wolverine State Brewing, and much more! Don’t miss our friends at Tri-Covery for post-race stretching and massage.

9:00 AM — 5K Awards (approximate time)

10:00 AM — 10K Awards (approximate time)

10:20 AM — Half Marathon Awards (approximate time)

Race Details

Race Bibs

The American Home Fitness Detroit Women’s Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K uses the Chronotrack B-Tag Timing System. This timing system provides each participant with an accurate time from the start to the finish line. You will receive a race bib featuring your individual race number. Individual timing tags are affixed to the back of each race bib. Leave the tags on the back of the bib and wear the bib on your front torso, so that it is clearly visible on the outside of your clothing.

Bib Quick Tips:

  • Race bib is clearly visible on the FRONT of your torso
  • Race bib is unaltered and unmodified (do not fold, wrinkle, or remove back tag)
  • Race bib is pinned in all four corners or secured to a race belt
  • Race bib is worn on the outside of your clothing and is not covered (by jackets, runner belts, water bottles, etc.)

Timing

The Chronotrack B-Tag Timing System provides each participant with an accurate time from the start to the finish line. Check out the QR code with your smartphone after you cross the finish line for (almost) instant results. You will need a QR code reader on your smartphone to use this feature. You will find a variety of QR code readers in the Apple App Store and at Google Play.

 

Results

Results for the American Home Fitness Detroit Women’s Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K will be posted by race-day evening on the event page.

 

Course Details

The half marathon, 10K, and 5K courses are USATF certified and will be run entirely on Belle Isle, starting and finishing near the Scott Memorial Fountain. In an effort to be green, we will not have printed maps available at the Expotique or on race day.

 

Finish Times

Half marathon participants must complete the course within 4 hours (18-minute/mile pace). You may run, run/walk, or walk as long as you finish within 4 hours. If you go over the 4-hour cut-off, we ask that you move to the bike path.

10K participants must complete the course within 2 hours (a 19-minute/mile pace). You may run, run/walk, or walk as long as you finish within 1 hour. If you go over the 2-hour cut-off, we ask that you move to the bike path.

5K participants must complete the course within 1 hour (a 19-minute/mile pace). You may run, run/walk, or walk as long as you finish within 1 hour. If you go over the 1-hour cut-off, we ask that you move to the bike path.

 

Course Clock and Mile Markers

A course clock will be located approximately at the 6.2-mile mark for the half marathon and at the finish line. Timing mats will be located at the start line, 6.2 split (half marathon only), and finish line. Mile markers will be located at each mile of the half marathon, 10K, and 5K courses.

 

Aid Stations Plus!

5K: There will be an aid station at the 1.5-mile mark, plus we will have water at the start and finish lines. The aid station will offer Gatorade first and water second.

10K: Aid stations will be located at the 2-mile, 3.5-mile, and 4.5-mile markers. Aid stations will offer Gatorade first and water second. Aid stations will also offer broth by Zoup! There will be energy gel at the 2-mile aid station.

Half Marathon: Aid stations will be located at the 2-mile, 3.5-mile, 4.5-mile, 5.5-mile, 7.5-mile, 8.5-mile, 10-mile, and 11.5-mile markers. Aid stations will offer Gatorade first and water second. Aid stations will also offer broth by Zoup! There will be energy gel at the 2-mile and 7.5-mile aid stations.

The Sanders Chocolate Mile will be located at approximately the 2.5-mile mark for the 5K, at approximately the 5.5-mile mark for the 10K, and the 12.5-mile mark for the Half Marathon.

Port-o-potties: These will be located at the start and finish areas, as well at these locations:

  • 5K — 0.5-mile mark, 1.5-mile mark
  • 10K — 2-mile mark
  • Half Marathon – 2-mile mark, 3.5-mile mark, 5-mile mark, 6-mile mark, 7.5-mile mark, 9-mile mark, 10.5-mile mark, 11.5-mile mark

 

Four Legs and Wheels

For insurance and safety reasons and to ensure everyone’s enjoyment of the American Home Fitness Detroit Women’s Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K, dogs, bicycles, roller skates, in-line skates, and unauthorized wheeled vehicles are not permitted on the course.

Jogging strollers are only permitted in the 5K event. Please familiarize yourself with our stroller policies (see also our Policies page):

  • Your child must stay strapped securely in the stroller for the entirety of the race.
  • Strollers must stay to the right of the course at all times
  • Strollers may not race or run, only jog

 

First Aid

There will be a Medical Aid Station located at the start/finish line and at approximately the 3.2-mile mark and the 8.5-mile mark, on the opposite side of the start/finish line. Ambulance service will be provided by DMC Care Express.

We ask that participants and spectators be aware and respectful of sirens and emergency vehicles that may end up on the course. If you hear or see an emergency vehicle, please move to the side of the road.

 

Watch for the Women in Red!

Among the participants at the American Home Fitness Detroit Women’s Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K will be a few special women: our Epic Heart Heroes. What is an Epic Heart Hero? An Epic Heart Hero is a woman who has come back from a heart issue, has taken control of her health, and refuses to let her heart issue stop her. An Epic Heart Hero takes action to minimize the risks of heart disease and she educates others. She isn’t perfect, she might not be fast, but she is determined. Watch for our Epic Heart Heroes on the course — they will be wearing red race bibs and distinctive Heart Hero running tops by sponsor Fellow Flowers — and be sure to cheer them on!

 

Participant Instructions

Half Marathon and 10K

Please arrive at your corral 15 minutes before the scheduled start time. Participants will line up in the corrals according to their estimated minute-per-mile pace. Please line up behind the correct pace sign!

The Half Marathon and 10K starting line is to the left of the blue arch when looking at the course map.

 

5K

Please arrive at your corral immediately after all the half-marathon and 10K participants have cleared the fountain. Runners will line up in the start corral according to their estimated minute-per-mile pace. Please line up behind the correct pace sign.

If you plan to walk, please line up at the last corral. If you plan to use a jogging stroller, you will line up behind the walkers (please see our stroller policies above or on our Policies page).

 

Pace Teams

Meet your 2017 Pacing Team and stop by and visit them at the Expotique! Hansons Running Shop will be providing pacers for the half marathon and 5K, while the Ann Arbor Running Company will be pacing the 10K. On race morning, the Pacing Team will be found just before the start area, lined up near the pace signs along the grass. Pace groups are based on a wide range of ability levels, starting at 1:35 (7:15 pace) through 3:00 (13:44 pace) and every time in between.

Not sure which pace is right for you? Check out this Race Prediction Chart or talk to the pacers at the Expotique or on race morning. Running with a pacer is a great way to meet your goal… but if you want to go ahead, feel free to break away. It’s also okay to slow down and do your own thing, then pick up with a slower pacing group.

 

Awards

All American Home Fitness Detroit Women’s Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K finishers receive our gorgeous Women Run the D finisher’s medal! Special awards will also be presented to:

  • 1st overall finishers in the half marathon, 10K, and 5K*
  • 1st Masters finisher (40+) in the half marathon, 10K, and 5K*
  • Top 5 finishers in each Age Division: 7-10 (5K only), 11-13 (5K only), 14-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+
  • Top three finishing duos in Mother-Daughter in the half marathon, 10K, and 5K
  • Top three finishing trios in Three Generations in the half marathon, 10K, and 5K

*Overall winners are not eligible to win age-group awards.

 

Awards for Teams

Team Categories (registered groups of 5 or more participants – friends, clubs, or corporate groups)

  • Half Marathon
  • 10K
  • 5K
  • Mixed

Awards will be presented to the top 3 registered teams in each category:

  • 5K Teams, 10K Teams, and Half Marathon Teams are scored by averaging the times of the entire team.
  • Mixed teams are scored by averaging an equal amount of the lowest Half Marathon , 10K, and 5K times.

 

Goddess Racing Series Gifts

Participating in two Goddess races? Please pick up your Goddess Racing Series hoo-rag at the Goddess retail booth at your second race. Completing all three? Please pick up your Goddess Racing Series medal at the Goddess retail booth at the Detroit Women’s Half Marathon!

Goddess Gifts

Did you complete two Goddess Racing Series events this year? If you participated in the Suburban Chevrolet Ann Arbor Goddess or Tri Goddess Tri in addition to the upcoming American Home Fitness Detroit Women’s Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K, you can pick up your Goddess Racing Hoo-Rag at the Women Run the D Boutique at the Women Run the D Expotique on Saturday, September 16 or at the retail booth after the race on Sunday, September 17. If you participated in all three Goddess Racing Series events, you can pick up your Goddess Racing gift and your Hoo-Rag at the Expotique or after the race.

 

Michigan MarathonHER

All of our Michigan MarathonHer participants can pick up their Michican MarathonHER medal at the Goddess retail booth on Belle Isle after the race.

 

Gear Check

Gear-check bags will be available at Packet Pick-Up at the Women Run the D Expotique and at the race venue. These will be clear in color. You must use the provided bag if you choose to check your gear. For the safety of our staff, volunteers, and participants, we will not accept any personal bags. Should you have a personal bag you’d like to check, you’ll need to empty it into the provided clear bag.

Gear Check opens at 7:15 AM on race day. It will be located under a tent labeled Bag Drop (near Packet Pick-Up).

Epic Races is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Please keep money, keys, and valuables on you and not in your checked bag.

 

The Women Run the D Expotique

Come pick up your packet, shop, and get some pre-race pampering between 10 AM and 4 PM on Saturday, September 16 at the Women Run the D Expotique! The Expotique will be held at the oldest yacht club in the country, the Detroit Boat Club, East Picnic Way, Detroit MI and will feature vendors such as Hanson’s Running Shop, the Women Run the D Boutique, Fellow Flowers, and many more! You’ll also have the opportunity to meet our Epic Heart Heroes. Be sure to put our Expotique on your calendar!

 

Virtual Goddess Details

Participants running the American Home Fitness Detroit Women’s Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K virtually must complete their run between Monday, August 1 and Sunday, September 17. We ask that our Virtual Goddesses post a photo of themselves running/walking and of their GPS watch (or a screenshot of their smartphone running app) on the American Home Fitness Detroit Women’s Half Marathon Facebook event page to share their accomplishment with us and their fellow goddesses. Be just to “join” the event in order to post!

 

Ditch the Discomfort

If you experience any aches, strains, or pain during your training or race, contact our friends at Probility Physical Therapy for a free injury assessment.

 

Spectator Etiquette

The starting line and the finish line are less than a half-mile apart on foot. This will give you a great chance to see both ends of the race.

  • DO offer a high-five if inspiration grabs you but remember that a few high fives go a long way. Don’t be offended if a runner doesn’t take you up on your offer
  • DO cheer on everybody, not just the participants you know
  • DO keep dogs leashed and well away from the course
  • DO be inspired to run yourself next year
  • DO have a great time! A road race can be a wonderful, inspiring event to watch
  • DON’T enter the race course! Big no-no!
  • DON’T smoke anywhere near the race
  • DON’T say “You’re almost there!” UNLESS the finish line is actually IN SIGHT

    I have been trying for hours to change my 5k to virtual. I do not show im signed up under the singup site, only under Imanathlete. Please help, so frustrated

      Tina, if you signed up with IMAthlete, you cannot change your registration… we have to do it for you, as Run Sign Up does not give that functionality to participants who transferred from IMAthlete. If you could please let us know if you want to change to the virtual 5K or the virtual half, we can do it for you.

    It’s my first time & a bit nervous. I don’t know if my little training is enough for the 5K run. I think I would be brisk walking instead of running! Hope everything goes well for our team Sisig & for everybody. See U at the race:-)

    I’m not able to pickup my packet on Saturday, if I arrive by 7am on Sunday will that allow me enough time to park and pickup the bibs ? Then would i take anything I don’t want to carry to gear check ?

      Hi Sheila! Packet Pick-Up closes at 7:30 AM Sunday morning, so you should have enough time… but you might to walk quickly from the parking lot to the Packet Pick-Up area, and you should definitely look your bib number up ahead of time to speed through. You can do that at http://bit.ly/DWHBibs. You’ll be getting your race bib and your race T at Packet Pick-Up on race day, plus safety pins and your gear check bag. Gear Check opens at 7:15 AM, so you can go straight to there once you’ve gone to Packet Pick-Up. Once you’re set, you should have enough time to head to the starting area to join in on the Be Bold Crew’s Pre-Race Warm Up!

      Yes! If you are a Michigan resident, you can purchase your Recreation Passport at Belle Isle upon entering the park. Be sure to have exact change ready to make the purchase faster. You can also bring your registration to a Secretary of State branch office today to pay the $11 and receive a replacement license-plate tab with two small P’s, indicating that you purchased the Recreation Passport. If you are from out of state, then you would purchase a $9 daily pass at the entrance to the park.

    Will there be the same vendors from Saturday (Cobo) at the race on Sunday? Fellow Flowers and Motor City Soap?

      A good number of vendors will be both at the Expotique and at the Goddess Village on race day. We are currently still registering vendors for the Detroit Goddess weekend. Fellow Flowers has traditionally only attended the Expotique. Motor City Soap Company’s bath salt making will only be at the Expotique.

    We are thinking of comming on Saturday to pick up our race packet and enjoy the vendors etc.
    we noticed that there is a pasta dinner. Can you tell me more about this? Do we register for this somewhere or is this only for the ladies spending the night.

      We are still finalizing the details for the pasta dinner! When everything is ready, we will email our participants and post about registration as well. The dinner is open to all participants and their families.

    I just learned about this race and would love to join the half-marathon. I know there are no guarantees for race-day registration, but I wonder how likely you think it is that I’ll be able to run if I show up Sunday morning? Thanks! Looks like a great event!

      Hi Jess! We will indeed have race-day registration at Belle Isle on Sunday, as well as at our Expo at Cobo Center on Saturday. If you choose to register on Belle Isle, please give yourself an extra hour’s time to arrive (the bridge to the island gets very backed up closer to race time).
