A portion of this event’s proceeds will benefit our featured charity, the American Heart Association: Go Red for Women.
The American Home Fitness Detroit Women’s Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K event was created by women for women. All women, of all ages, of all abilities. First-time racers and experienced marathoners. The young and the young at heart. Join your sisters on beautiful Belle Isle State Park on Sunday, September 16, 2018 and celebrate your strength, your beauty, your inner grace… everything that makes you the goddess you are!
The American Home Fitness Detroit Women’s Half Marathon, 10K, & 5K is walker friendly!
The Detroit Women’s Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K also features a RIM Foundation Handcycle Division in our 5K, so that Goddesses of all abilities can participate in our event! The Handcycle Division will offer both Para and Quad categories, and participants will start with the half-marathon competitors.
In addition to our three distances, Women Run the D features two special family-awards divisions:
Three Generations of Women
Spend a memorable day on Belle Isle running with your mother, daughter, grandmother, or granddaughter! The family that runs together has fun together, after all, and what better way to show family pride — female pride! — than showing everyone how your family’s women run the D? Participating in these divisions will NOT preclude you from the regular age-group awards. These divisions are in addition to the age-group awards, so be sure to sign up when you register: one mother and one daughter for the Mother/Daughter division, and one grandmother, one mother, and one daughter for the Three Generations of Women award (note: all family-awards participants must be racing the same distance, eg. everyone doing the 5K).

Women Run the D is a Leave No Trace event. Learn more about our race-day recycling and composting efforts here. Want more information about running a great race and leaving no trace? Click here to visit Happy Planet Running!
If you have a race-day conflict that keeps you from joining us at Belle Isle, no worries! Moved away from the Mitten? Not a problem. Like to sleep in on Sundays? That’s fine, too. You can now participate in the American Home Fitness Detroit Women’s Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K as a virtual racer! You’ll receive the same sweet swag that our race-day participants receive (race swag will be sent out the week following the event), and you can even join your friends who’ll be physically present on a team! Simply pick a date between August 1 and September 16 to run or walk, then enjoy your virtual race anywhere, indoors or outdoors. There’s no need to “prove” your race to us, but it would be awesome if you could upload pictures and share your experience on our 2018 Detroit Women’s Virtual Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K Facebook event page or tag us on your Tweets. We look forward to seeing you… in spirit!
Please note: Epic Races does not ship swag to Canada or internationally. If you are a resident of Canada or another country and wish to participate in an Epic Races virtual event, please provide us with a U.S. shipping address.
Epic Races is pleased to offer participants race insurance through TicketGuardian. TicketGuardian’s standard insurance coverage allows you to get your money back if you are unable to attend your event due to car accidents, severe weather, family emergencies, military duty, and even medical issues. This is perfectly normal, especially when we can be so easily overwhelmed by our family and work responsibilities. Our sponsor, Hanson’s Running Shop, is ready to help! For more information about training runs, check out the Hanson’s web site.
There’s a lot of talk about inequality between men and women, but there is one area in particular where women are leading in record numbers: heart disease. It’s the No. 1 killer of women and is more deadly than all forms of cancer. But there’s a leadership role just waiting for women like you to pounce on: leading the charge to end this deadly foe once and for all.
This is why we have chosen Go Red for Women as our charity partner. A portion of each American Home Fitness Detroit Women’s Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K entry fee will go to Go Red for Women®, a passionate, emotional, social initiative designed to empower women to take charge of their heart health. To learn more, please visit www.GoRedForWomen.org. To further your knowledge about heart health and how to respond in case of an emergency, visit OnlineAHA.org.
Along with Go Red for Women® and Fellow Flowers, the American Home Fitness Detroit Women’s Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K is searching for a few amazing women: runners or walkers of any level that embody the qualities of an Epic Heart Hero.
What is an Epic Heart Hero? An Epic Heart Hero is a woman who has come back from a heart issue, has taken control of her health, and refuses to let this stop her. She approaches life with passion and strength, as she knows too well how short life can be. She embraces a healthy lifestyle and she teaches and helps others in their quest to get healthy. An Epic Heart Hero knows the risk factors for heart disease and stroke, and she takes action to minimize the risk. She educates others about these risk factors to help them take control of their heart health. An Epic Heart Hero isn’t perfect, and she might not be fast, but she is definitely determined!
What will an Epic Heart Hero do? She will run or walk the American Home Fitness Detroit Women’s Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K. She serves as a role model for all our runners and walkers with her amazing story. In exchange for sharing her story, an Epic Heart Hero will receive free entry to the American Home Fitness Detroit Women’s Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K (her choice of distance) and receive complimentary gear from our sponsors. In addition, an Epic Heart Hero will appear at the Women Run the D Expotique and share her story with the media upon request.
To learn more about our Epic Heart Heroes or to nominate yourself or someone you know to be a 2018 Epic Heart Hero, click here for our Epic Heart Heroes page or here for the online nomination form. Nomination deadline is May 13, 2018.
