The young and the young at heart. Join your sisters on beautiful Belle Isle State Park on Sunday, September 16, 2018 and celebrate your strength, your beauty, your inner grace… everything that makes you the goddess you are!

Goddesses of All Abilities

The Detroit Women’s Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K also features a RIM Foundation Handcycle Division in our 5K, so that Goddesses of all abilities can participate in our event! The Handcycle Division will offer both Para and Quad categories, and participants will start with the half-marathon competitors.

Friends and Family

In addition to our three distances, Women Run the D features two special family-awards divisions and Team Awards.

  • Mother/Daughter
  • Three Generation

Participating in these divisions will NOT preclude you from the regular age-group awards. These divisions are in addition to the age-group awards, so be sure to sign up when you register: one mother and one daughter for the Mother/Daughter division, and one grandmother, one mother, and one daughter for the Three Generations of Women award (note: all family-awards participants must be racing the same distance, eg. everyone doing the 5K).

Team Categories (registered groups of 5 or more participants – friends, families, clubs, or corporate groups)

  • Half Marathon
  • 10K
  • 5K

Awards will be presented to the top 3 registered teams in each category. Teams are scored by averaging the times of the entire team. All team members must participate in the same distance race.

Do you participate in the I Run 4 program? Click here for information about obtaining a medal for your I Run 4 buddy!

Race-Weekend Registration

Q. I signed up for the 5K but I think the 10K is more my distance. Can I transfer to the 10K?
A. You can switch from the 5K to the 10K — or from the 10K to the half or from any of our three distances to another — by logging in to your Run Sign Up account, clicking the My Registered Races button, clicking Manage Registration by Detroit Women's Half Marathon, then clicking the Transfer Event button and following the onscreen instructions. If you are transferring to a longer distance, you will be charged for the difference in price between the events. You can also switch events at Packet Pick-Up. Note: you cannot switch to any of the virtual events after Sunday, September 2.

Q. Can I transfer my registration to someone else?
A. Yes! Log into your Run Sign Up account, click the My Registered Races button, click Manage Registration by Detroit Women's Half Marathon, then click Transfer to Another Runner and follow the onscreen instructions. There is a $15 charge to transfer your registration to another event, as well as a Run Sign Up processing fee. NOTE: the deadline to transfer your registration to another person is Sunday, September 2.

Q. I can no longer attend. How do I get a refund?
A. By registering for an Epic Races event, you have purchased a ticket to participate in one of the most exhilarating and enjoyable races in Southeast Michigan. As with a ticket to any sports or entertainment event, there are no refunds if you are unable to attend.

Q. I can no longer attend. Can I defer my registration to next year?
A. Yes! To defer your registration to 2019, email us at info@epicraces.com. NOTE: The deadline to defer your registration is August 7, 2018. Please note that there are no emergency deferrals of any kind.

Q. I can no longer attend. Can I get my race shirt and medal sent to me?
A. We are happy to send you your race shirt; please send a self-addressed, large shipping envelope with $5 affixed postage and our Mailing Race Items downloadable form (found on our Policies page at http://www.epicraces.com/policies) to us at Epic Races, 600 S. Wagner Road, Ann Arbor, MI, 48103 (please check our Policies page for full details). However, our finisher's medals are reserved for those who complete our race.

Q. I signed up to run a virtual race the same day as the Detroit Women's Half Marathon. Do I need to register and pay for both?
A. Yes! If you plan on participating in the Detroit Women's Half Marathon, you must register and pay in order to be allowed on the race course, regardless of whether or not you are also participating in a virtual event.

Q. I already registered and would like to buy pasta-dinner tickets. How do I do this?
A. Log onto your Run Sign Up account, then click Manage My Registrations. Click Manage Registration by the listing for this race, then click the blue Add-Ons button. You can then purchase your pasta-dinner tickets.

Q. I need to switch my shirt size. What do I need to do?
A. Log onto your Run Sign Up account, then click Manage My Registrations. Click Manage Registration by the listing for this race, then click the blue Giveaways button. You can then follow the onscreen instructions to change your shirt size and/or style.

Q. Where do I park on race morning?
A. Parking will be available at Belle Isle State Park. Please note that you will need a State of Michigan Recreation Passport to enter or you will be charged an entrance fee to the park. For more details, visit http://www.michigan.gov/DNR.

Q. What happens if it's raining on race day?
A. The Detroit Women's Half events will be held, rain, snow, or shine. Please be sure to dress accordingly for the weather.

Q. How many aid stations will there be?
A. There will be one aid station on the 5K course; we are currently determining how many aid stations will be on the 10K and half-marathon courses.

Q. Can I walk?
A. Absolutely! Please do note that, after 12 PM, the roads on Belle Isle will open to traffic and you will need to continue on the walkways and grass if you have not yet crossed the finish line.

Q. Are jogging strollers allowed?
A. Yes! However, participants with jogging strollers may not race or run; they may only jog. Participants with strollers must remain courteous and respectful of all other participants; they must stay to the right of the course and may not weave in and out of the other participants. Children in jogging strollers must remain securely fastened in the stroller while on the course.

Q. Are dogs allowed?
A. No, dogs are not allowed on any of the event courses or in the post-race food area due to safety, security, and insurance reasons. The exception is for certified service dogs, who must wear their service vests and be on six-foot (or shorter) leashes.

Q. Are headphones/ear buds allowed?
A. Yes, but we strongly encourage that you consider participating without portable music. This way, you will be able to hear the course marshals, as well as the spectators cheering for you. You will also be able to hear your fellow runners calling out that they are passing you.

Q. When will results be posted and where?
A. You'll find the results by clicking on the blue Results button at the top of this page. Results will be posted within 6 hours after the race ends.

Q. Can someone else pick up my race packet for me?
A. Yes! You can have someone pick up your packet for you if you are unable to make it to Packet Pick-Up.

Q. My race shirt doesn't fit. Can I exchange it?
A. Yes! However, exchanges can only be done after the race and there is no guarantee of size.

Q. I left before results were posted and I won an award! How do I get it?
A. Congratulations! Awards will be available for pick-up at American Home Fitness locations at
Ann Arbor, Birmingham, Sterling Heights, and Novi starting Friday, September 21. Please be sure to call the store prior to your arrival to make sure awards are in stock at that location.

Q. My daughter and I want to participate in the Mother/Daughter division. How do we register?
A. During the registration process, you will be asked if you wish to create a team. Click Create/Join a team and use the pull-down menu to select the Mother/Daughter (or 3 Generations) division. Create your team, then add your team mates. Please note that you both must run the same distance (both of you doing the 5K, both of you doing the 10K, or both of you doing the half marathon; no mixed-distance teams).

Q. We already registered. Is it too late to join the Mother/Daughter division?
A. You can register for the Mother/Daughter (or 3 Generations) division until online registration closes at 4 PM the Thursday before the race. If you have already registered, simply log on to your Run Sign Up account, click My Registered Races, click Manage Registration under Detroit Women's Half Marathon, then click the blue Group/Team button and create a team under Mother/Daughter (or 3 Generations). You can then add your teammates.

Q. Can men participate in this race?
A. The Detroit Women's Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K welcomes male participants, as long as they participate in the spirit of the event (celebrating women's running and supporting/encouraging our Epic Heart Heroes). Male participants are not eligible for awards.

I cannot complete this registration because it requires me to alllow them to sent me text messages. I do not want any text messages!!!

    • Eva April 8, 2015 at 7:15 AM #

Hello Pat! I apologize for any confusion. The text message question is an option- you are certainly welcome to leave it blank. The reasons we would sent text messages would to let participants know about a possible weather related delay in start time, or any other unforseen change in plans. For a triathlon we use it to send out the water temperature morning of the race. Again, this is an opt-in feature, certainly not mandatory. Please let us know if we can answer any other questions for you.

What is the cost to be a Sponsor and what will it allow a company to advertise?

    • Eva July 8, 2015 at 6:57 AM #

Thanks for your email, Dianne. I will send a sponsorship packet to your email address.

  3. Heather July 8, 2015 at 1:16 PM #

Does the women’s fitted race tee size xl really fit like suggested size 6-8 like it said on the site? When I registered due to the sizing I chose xl but I don’t want a huge shirt that is going to be way to big to wear handed to me at the expo… Thanks!

    • ana July 8, 2015 at 6:10 PM #

Yes, the sizes are correct as listed. The women’s fitted tees are VERY fitted.

  4. Laura July 22, 2015 at 9:54 AM #

Are there hotels you recommend staying at that have shuttle to the race? Thanks for your help with this. Very excited for this race! Laura

    • ana July 22, 2015 at 11:01 AM #

Yes! Laura, our host hotel is the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center and we will have shuttles taking runners to Belle Isle from there. You’ll find all that information under Hotel Information on the event page.

  5. Nancy Gomez August 4, 2015 at 3:40 PM #

I am not able to participate in the 2015 race. Is it possible to move my registration to 2016?

    • ana August 4, 2015 at 3:52 PM #

We’re sorry to hear that you won’t be able to join us on Belle Isle next month! You’ll find all the details on how to transfer your registration or request a partial refund on our Policies page at https://epicraces.com/about/policies/.

  6. Jackie August 14, 2015 at 12:12 PM #

Will there be a sneak peak of the awesome medals? 😉

    • ana August 14, 2015 at 1:07 PM #

When we have them ready, we most certainly will provide a peek! ????

  7. Cristina August 19, 2015 at 2:42 PM #

If I plan to walk the 5k, am I able to bring my girls in the jogging stroller?

    • ana August 19, 2015 at 3:21 PM #

Strollers with children inside them are indeed allowed! You will need to start at the back of the 5K group, with runners and walkers ahead.

      • Cristin August 19, 2015 at 4:28 PM #

No problem at all with starting in the back! Thanks for the reply, I’m excited to bring my girls this year!

  8. Leslie Miller August 27, 2015 at 8:13 AM #

Is there a deferral option for the half marathon?

  9. Renee September 1, 2015 at 10:35 PM #

I am registered for the 5K and have been registered since July 28, 2015. I ran this race last year and loved it. I have been diagnosed with Pneumonia (I have documents to prove it) and will not be able to run the race in Detroit ( I live in southern Ohio and travel in for the race). I’m not asking for a refund but I was wondering if I could switch my registration to the virtual race so that I could still be apart of the race when my health returns. Please let me know if this is possible and I am willing to prove my sickness. Thank you.

    • ana September 2, 2015 at 4:48 PM #

Renee, absolutely! Our promotions coordinator had pneumonia for the entire month of April, so we totally get how harsh this can be. It looks like you are already switched to the Virtual 5K, so you should be set! Let us know if you need our help with anything else, and rest, rest, rest! Feel better soon!

      • Tina September 14, 2015 at 8:20 PM #

how do i make the switch to virtual?

  10. Lisa September 4, 2015 at 6:56 PM #

Hi, if I registered for the virtual 5K, is it possible to change that (pay the difference) so I can run at the actual Belle Isle event?

    • ana September 4, 2015 at 7:17 PM #

Absolutely! Just log into your Run Sign Up account, click on My Registered Races, and find the American Home Fitness Detroit Women’s Half Marathon & 5K. Click “View/Edit Registration” and you’ll find the option to switch events. Run Sign Up will help you take care of any balance that is due. 🙂

  11. Nicole September 4, 2015 at 8:24 PM #

Where is the parking located for the day of the race? Is there going to be parking available on belle isle?

    • ana September 4, 2015 at 11:35 PM #

Nicole, Belle Isle has huge parking lots! You’ll be directed to them once you cross the bridge into the park. For more details, please see our Race-Day Guide.

  12. Rebecca September 8, 2015 at 8:36 AM #

Hello! I am trying to change my registration from 1/2 marathon to 5k – I’ve been to runsignup but see nothing about “manage my registration” I’m not sure if the time has passed or if I am just missing something:)

    • ana September 8, 2015 at 9:16 AM #

Hi Rebecca! First, sign in to your account at Run Sign Up. Once you’ve logged in, scroll to the bottom of your page. You should see the Manage My Registrations link there. Click that; a list of your races will come up. Find the Women’s Half and click View/Edit Registration next to the race’s name. You should be able to modify your registration from there. Let us know if you encounter any problems!

  13. Gina September 9, 2015 at 11:17 AM #

Hi, I was wondering if we needed to change our registration in order to do the 5k virtually instead of joining the festivities? Due to a medical condition, I can no longer run, but would love to partake still at home. I checked out the RunSignUp.com, but didn’t see a way to change my registration.

    • Eva September 9, 2015 at 11:23 AM #

I’m sorry to hear you won’t be able to join us. Please send your registration info to eva@epicraces.com and I’ll make that change for you.

  14. Patricia September 12, 2015 at 9:12 AM #

I’m not able to do this race because of a stress fracture in my foot. I tried to follow the steps to change my registration to another race, but it doesn’t show any upcoming runs for me under my runsignup account. I would like to just transfer it to the half for next year if you are doing it again.

    • Eva September 13, 2015 at 7:49 AM #

I’m really sorry to hear about your stress fracture. Unfortunately, at this point you are not able to switch to next year’s race. You are able to switch to an event within this race. Perhaps you would like to switch to the virtual race and do your run when you are healed?

  15. Courtney September 14, 2015 at 12:19 PM #

Is a map somewhere that lists where there will be port-a-potties and gatorade along the course?

  16. Lily September 14, 2015 at 2:34 PM #

Are there pacers for the half marathon on Sunday? If so, what are the times for the different pace groups? THANK YOU 🙂

    • ana September 14, 2015 at 2:46 PM #

Yes! You’ll find the entire pace-team line up in the event’s Race-Day Guide!

  17. Tina September 14, 2015 at 8:24 PM #

my registration is under Imanathlete and not the run sign up website. The Detroit race doesn’t come up?

    • ana September 14, 2015 at 9:33 PM #

Tina, if you originally registered for this race through IMAthlete, we will need to make the switch for you. Do you wish to be transferred to the virtual 5K or the virtual half? Please let us know!

  18. Marcia September 15, 2015 at 9:31 PM #

I thought I posted a question on here but I don’t see it now. Should I repost the question or will you be responding via email?

    • ana September 15, 2015 at 11:22 PM #

Marcia, you’ll find our reply further down this page. 🙂

  19. Mellissa September 18, 2015 at 9:20 AM #

I registered online for the actual race on Wednesday but don’t see my name anywhere? I haven’t received any confirmation yet either. I’ve been training for a year and begging my friend to do it with me…how can I make sure that I’m in and registered?!

    • ana September 18, 2015 at 10:36 AM #

Melissa, please check your in box for an email from me regarding your registration! Thanks!

  20. Sally September 18, 2015 at 9:23 AM #

how do I sign-up on race wkend? do I go to the expo, or sign-up on the day of the race?

    • ana September 18, 2015 at 10:20 AM #

      • Sally September 18, 2015 at 11:38 AM #

ok… thanks for your response, Ana… Another question then, do we still recv a finishers medal and shirt at this late entry?

        • ana September 18, 2015 at 11:40 AM #

Sally, yes! You will still receive a finisher’s medal! We cannot guarantee shirt sizes this close to race day, however… it will be first come, first served for the extras we have in stock.

          • Sally September 18, 2015 at 8:36 PM #

Ok! Thanks Ana for your quick replies!

  21. Diane September 18, 2015 at 11:04 AM #

I am going to the Expo tomorrow, Saturday, Sept 19, and will be picking up my packet and packets for two friends. I have the confirmation emails for my registration and also for the two friends. One of the friends just called me to say that she had read that I also need to bring a copy of each friend’s driver’s license to pick up their packets. Is that true? Thanks so much!

    • ana September 18, 2015 at 11:18 AM #

Yes, you need a copy of their ID in order to pick up packets for friends. You’ll find all those details under Packet Pick-Up in our Race-Day Guide. 🙂

  22. Brandi September 18, 2015 at 12:45 PM #

Will there be somewhere to register on race day?

    • ana September 18, 2015 at 12:49 PM #

Yes, Brandi! Race-day registration will be by Packet Pick-Up at Belle Isle (race venue) between 6 AM and 7:30 AM. Cash only, $90 for the half marathon and $50 for the 5K.

  23. Erin July 6, 2016 at 8:48 PM #

Is there s time restriction for the half marathon? Like a course closure time?

    • ana July 7, 2016 at 7:49 AM #

Hi Erin! The course closes at noon, which is four hours after the race starts. You can see the race-day schedule by clicking the blue Schedule button near the top of the page.

  24. Jessi September 16, 2016 at 9:07 PM #

Are there still spaces open to register on race day?

    • ana September 16, 2016 at 11:23 PM #

Yes! We certainly do! Just be sure to come out very early to avoid the back-ups on Macarthur Bridge!

I finished half marathon today 9/18/2016 and was checking results. The finishing certificate has wrong year. It say 2015 instead 2016. Please make the correct. Thanks

    • ana September 18, 2016 at 11:45 PM #

Our apologies! The default setting did not update it for 2016. It is now active. Thanks for letting us know!

Where can age-group awards be picked up? I read above that a location would be disclosed shortly after the race.

    • ana September 23, 2016 at 2:55 PM #

Hi Ebony! Here’s the information on award pick-up from our “Congratulations, Goddesses!” email that went out on Monday 9/19:

If you did not receive your age-group award at yesterday’s award ceremony, you will be able to pick up your prize at the following American Home Fitness locations during regular business hours:

Ann Arbor — after Tuesday afternoon
      Southeast Detroit — after Friday
      Toledo — after Monday

Don’t live or work near an American Home Fitness? Please see our Policies page for information on how to receive your prize via postal mail.

Can you please send me sponsorship info? Thanks.

I see the hotel this year is in not in Detroit. Last year you provided shuttle service for those staying at the Marriott – will you provide the same service for the Dearborn hotel to and from the run on event day? How do we sign up for that service? I do not want to drive my car in from Dearborn or Toledo (my home town) the morning of the event. Thank you

    • Eva April 26, 2017 at 7:41 AM #

      Hi Vanessa,
I apologize that the transportation info is not on the website yet. We will have a bus that goes to the race in the morning, and it will come back to the hotel at the conclusion of the event. Unfortunately because of the distance, we aren’t able to provide back and forth shuttle throughout the event like we have in the past. We’re sad about not being able to have our host hotel in Detroit this year. Multiple large events in Detroit that weekend have shot up hotel prices to the point that it would just be out of line to use one for our host hotel. We ARE excited about The Henry in Dearborn though- it is a a super cool and beautiful hotel!

      • Vanesssa April 26, 2017 at 7:46 AM #

Eva – thank you for the quick response! Hoping the shuttle back to the hotel waits for us slower runners!
I will be signing up today! I really enjoyed your event last year – hope it’s not as humid this year! See you in September!

Did the race hotel change? Is it down town Detroit now? I made reservations a few months back and I thought it was out by Henry Ford. Thanks

    • ana June 17, 2017 at 7:16 PM #

Hi, Vanessa! We are currently finalizing plans to have a room block at the Crowne Plaze Downtown Detroit so that our participants can be closer to Belle Isle and the Detroit Boat Club. We should have everything confirmed this week and will send out an email to our participants to share the details! Thanks for your patience while we iron things out!

      • Vanessa June 17, 2017 at 7:23 PM #

Thanks Ana – I thought I missed something! I’ll switch once info is available! Looking forward to the event.

Just checking on the Crowne Plaza hotel reservations – the link on the site did not click through – any updates yet? I booked at the other hotel and need to change to Detroit hotel asap. Thanks

    • ana July 9, 2017 at 6:36 AM #

The hotel link for the Crowne Plaza is up and working. Thanks and see you in September!

Are the women’s fitted shirts the only purple ones, or is purple available in the other cut?

    • Eva August 28, 2017 at 12:22 PM #

      Hi Molly,
The women’s fitted is purple and the unisex is heather charcoal as the two cuts are not available in the same colors.

I will be walking the first time with my 14 year old grand-daughter in the 5K, her Mom is doing the 10K. Can my granddaughter and I sign up as a team? I only see Mother + Daughter as a team. Is there a Grand-daughter + Grandmother team?
Also I do a 18 min mile walking am I out of my league in this group?

    • Eva September 4, 2017 at 8:50 PM #

First- you are right in your league!! What a wonderful thing to do with your granddaughter!
Regarding teams, we have mother/daughter and 3-generation teams set up as “competitive” teams. You can sign up as a 3 generation “social” as opposed to a competitive team since your daughter is doing the 10K. Let me know if I can help with anything else!

I see there is a link to the Henry hotel and it lists a special rate of $139/night. Is there a promo code I need in order to get this price? Without a code the rates start at $284.

    • Eva September 13, 2017 at 11:00 AM #

If they are no longer honoring the rate, it is because all of the rooms in our block are sold out.

Please email Mary@epicraces.com with information about your product or service and she will send you more information.
