Adults shouldn’t have all the fun when it comes to running and swimming! Epic Races invites youth athletes from all around Michigan and beyond to join in on the aquatic and sprinting action at the Epic Kids’ Splash and Dash. Scheduled for Sunday, June 12 at Halfmoon Lake in Pinckney State Recreation Area — the very same venue as the Ann Arbor Triathlon: WolverineMan and Swim to the Moon — the Epic Kids’ Splash and Dash is part of the USA Triathlon Youth Splash and Dash Aquathlon Series, featuring more than 40 events for children throughout the country.
A Splash and Dash is an exciting, fast-growing sporting event, called an aquathlon, that combines swimming and running. The swimming leg can take place in any body of water, such as a pool, a reservoir, or an ocean, while the running leg can take place on a trail, a road, or a path. At the Epic Kids’ Splash and Dash, the swim will take place in Halfmoon Lake, while the run will take place in the parklands surrounding the lake.
The focus of the USA Triathlon Youth Splash and Dash Aquathlon Series is to encourage participation, to expose young athletes to USA Triathlon and the exciting world of multisport, and to have fun and meet/make friends who also enjoy multisport events!
The Epic Kids’ Splash and Dash is part of the Pure Michigan FITness Series of events and is endorsed by the Michigan Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health, and Sports.
Absolutely! If you are between the ages of 7 and 15 and have a USA Triathlon annual youth membership, you are eligible to take part in the Epic Kids’ Splash and Dash! Bring a positive attitude, get ready to learn firsthand about multisport, and be prepared for a great experience!
The distances for the Epic Kids’ Splash and Dash are set by USA Triathlon; these distances are standardized and exactly the same at every event in the USAT Youth Splash and Dash Aquathlon Series:
|Ages 7-10||Ages 11-15|
Each participant in the Epic Kids’ Splash and Dash receives a Splash and Dash T-shirt, a Splash and Dash patch, and a commemorative finisher’s medal… tangible mementos of your child’s special day! Each participant also receives FREE downloads of all race photos taken by our sports photographers at Greg Sadler Photography… another reason our events are so Epic!
All Epic lifeguards hold current lifeguard certification as well as certification in first aid and CPR. Our Epic lifeguards are able to keep our swimmers safe thanks to our official SUP company, Red Star Board Company. We’re very grateful to have Red Star as part of Epic team.
Beginning on January 1, 2016, there will no longer be USAT one-day youth memberships. For youth, there will only be annual memberships available; these will cost $10 per child per year. The $10 annual youth fee pays for USAT insurance and helps USAT funds training programs for athletes, coaches, and referees. The entire fee goes to USAT. USAT is the national governing body for the sport of triathlon. Epic Races’ affiliation is with USAT. See USA Triathlon for more information and to join as an annual member.
