Q. I signed up for the 5K but I think the mile is more my distance. Can I transfer to the mile?
A. You can switch from the 5K to the mile — or from the mile to the 5K or from either to the Double Shot — by logging in to your Run Sign Up account, clicking the My Registered Races button, clicking Manage Registration by Hot Cocoa Classic, then clicking the Transfer Event button and following the onscreen instructions. If you are transferring to the 5K from the mile, you will be charged for the difference in price between the events. NOTE: the deadline to switch events is Saturday, October 27.

Q. Can I transfer my registration to someone else?
A. Yes! Log into your Run Sign Up account, click the My Registered Races button, click Manage Registration by Hot Cocoa Classic, then click Transfer to Another Runner and follow the onscreen instructions. There is a $15 charge to transfer your registration to another event, as well as a Run Sign Up processing fee. NOTE: the deadline to transfer your registration to another person is Saturday, October 20.

Q. I can no longer attend. How do I get a refund?
A. By registering for an Epic Races event, you have purchased a ticket to participate in one of the most exhilarating and enjoyable races in Southeast Michigan. As with a ticket to any sports or entertainment event, there are no refunds if you are unable to attend. However, if you chose to purchase the optional TicketGuardian race insurance, you can file a claim to have your entry fees reimbursed. Visit http://claims.ticketguardian.net.

Q. I can no longer attend. Can I defer my registration to next year?
A. Yes! To defer your registration to 2019, email us at info@epicraces.com. NOTE: The deadline to defer your registration is September 22, 2018.

Q. I can no longer attend. Can I get my race shirt and medal sent to me?
A. We are happy to send you your race shirt; please send a self-addressed, large shipping envelope with $5 affixed postage and our downloadable Mailing Race Items form (found under Mailing Race Items on our Policies page at http://www.epicraces.com/policies) to us at Epic Races, 600 S. Wagner Road, Ann Arbor, MI, 48103. However, our finisher's medals are reserved for those participants who complete our race.

Q. I signed up to run a virtual race the same day as the Hot Cocoa Classic 5K. Do I need to register and pay for both?
A. Yes! If you plan on participating in the Hot Cocoa Classic, you must register and pay in order to be allowed on the race course, regardless of whether or not you are also participating in a virtual event.

Q. Where do I park on race morning?
A. Plenty of parking will be available at Mt. Brighton!

Q. What happens if it's raining or snowing on race day?
A. The Hot Cocoa Classic will be held, rain, snow, or shine. Please be sure to dress accordingly for the weather.

Q. How many aid stations will there be?
A. There will be one aid station on the 5K course.

Q. Are jogging strollers allowed?
A. Yes! However, participants with jogging strollers may not race or run; they may only jog. Participants with strollers must remain courteous and respectful of all other participants; they must stay to the right of the course and may not weave in and out of the other participants. Children in jogging strollers must remain securely fastened in the stroller while on the course. Please do consider the course before bringing your jogging stroller. The mile course is very steep, while the 5K course traverses grass and unpaved areas that may be slippery and icy depending on the weather.

Q. Are dogs allowed?
A. No, dogs are not allowed on any of the event courses or in the post-food area due to safety, security, and insurance reasons.

Q. Are headphones/ear buds allowed?
A. Yes, but we strongly encourage that you consider participating without portable music. This way, you will be able to hear the course marshals, as well as the spectators cheering for you. You will also be able to hear your fellow runners calling out that they are passing you.

Q. When will results be posted and where?
A. You'll find the results by clicking on the blue Results button at the top of this page. Results will be posted within 6 hours after the race ends.

Q. Can someone else pick up my race packet for me?
A. Yes! You can have someone pick up your packet for you if you are unable to make it to packet pick-up.

Q. My race shirt doesn't fit. Can I exchange it?
A. Yes! However, exchanges can only be done after the race and there is no guarantee of size.

Q. I left before results were posted and I won an award! How do I get it?
A. Congratulations! To receive your age-group award, please send a self-addressed 12X15 (or larger) shipping envelope with $5 affixed postage to us at Epic Races, 600 S. Wagner Road, Ann Arbor, MI 48103. Be sure to include our downloadable Awards Request form so that we know who you are, what race and distance you ran, and in which place you finished. 2. Meredith November 5, 2014 at 3:36 PM #

Sorry – didn’t see an FAQ section… Are strollers permitted in the 5K? Thanks!

    • ana November 5, 2014 at 4:58 PM #

Hi there! You’ll find an FAQ section in the Mt. Brighton Hot Cocoa Classic’s Athlete’s Guide to Race Day (https://epicraces.com/?p=4163), along with a parking map, a schedule of events, and other important information. To answer your question, strollers are not permitted in the 5K or the Mountain Mile due to safety and liability insurance issues.

My husband was 5th in his age division. There were 5 but we didn’t hear his name called for his award and we were standing there. We noticed looking at the results now that we are home he got 5th. Shawn Arnett. Can we get it mailed?

    • Debra Arnett November 9, 2014 at 2:25 AM #

Nevermind, I see another person added to his division.

  4. Dave July 29, 2015 at 11:41 PM #

It sounds like Double Shot runners get the 5k race shirt as well as the Double Shot thermal. Is this the case?

    • Eva July 30, 2015 at 7:11 AM #

      Sure is!

  5. Stephanie August 25, 2015 at 12:49 PM #

Is the same race as last year’s Cocoa Classic that was held Downtown Detroit?

    • Eva August 26, 2015 at 2:50 PM #

No, Stephanie it is not the same race that was held in Detroit. This race is an extremely well organized and fun event with lots of hot cocoa and chocolate treats at the finish!

  6. Stephanie October 5, 2015 at 9:09 AM #

Will you have any sized XXL t-shirts? XL is too small for my hubby.

    • ana October 5, 2015 at 10:59 AM #

We offer Unisex 2XL shirts at all our races. 🙂

      • Stephanie October 6, 2015 at 9:18 AM #

Great, it wasn’t a choice when he signed up, so we requested an XL.

        • ana October 6, 2015 at 1:47 PM #

Hi Stephanie! Your husband can log into his Run Sign Up account and switch to a 2XL by clicking “Manage My Registrations,” then clicking “View/Edit Registration” next to the Hot Cocoa Classic listing. The T-shirt option is just about 2/3s of the way down the page.

  7. Chris W November 3, 2015 at 7:13 PM #

I didn’t know I wouldn’t be able to select shirt sizes due to my registration date (today 11/3/15) is there anyway to try and make selections or are we just going to have to try and get to packet pickup as soon as possible to see what’s available? (I have my registration, my wife and my son’s under my name).

    • ana November 4, 2015 at 1:03 PM #

We’re sorry… as our site notes, race T-shirt sizes are only guaranteed through October 24. For those who register after October 24, the T-shirts are first come, first served, so you’ll want to get to Packet Pick-Up as early as you can.

  8. Amanda Ellis November 7, 2015 at 11:47 AM #

My husband managed to lose my t-shirt while I was running the race (and he was chasing our 17 month old). It was a fitted large. Is there any way to get another one?

    • ana November 7, 2015 at 2:57 PM #

We do have a few left after today’s event. If you can send us an SASE to Epic Races, 600 S. Wagner, Ann Arbor, 48103 we will set it aside and send it out to you. 🙂

      • Amanda Ellis November 7, 2015 at 5:14 PM #

Thank you! I will send one out on Monday. ????

  9. Michael Cummings November 3, 2016 at 8:10 AM #

Happy Birthday Eva Mendelsohn Solomon! I hope to see you at this years event.

  10. Stephanie Balch November 20, 2016 at 5:11 PM #

My friend said to me the other day that she thought i won an award for my age group this year at the Cocoa run in Brighton.. I had to leave to go to work, so can someone check on this for me and let me know how to get it?
    Thank you

    • ana November 20, 2016 at 5:29 PM #

Stephanie, you can click the blue Results button at the top of the Hot Cocoa Classic event page to check the results. You’ll also find information on how to receive an age-group award by clicking the blue FAQs button at the top of the event page.

  11. Chris October 17, 2017 at 10:29 PM #

Is this race on concrete or more of a trail/CC style race? I saw the map but wasn’t able to tell if the route was paved. Thanks.

    • Eva October 18, 2017 at 6:39 AM #

It is on a golf course so it is both cart path and grass- mostly cart path. The finish of the Marshmallow Mile is downhill on grass and depending upon the weather can be slippery.
