Run the City

All distance events — marathon, half marathon, 10K, and 5K — start just outside one of Ann Arbor’s most memorable landmarks: the University of Michigan Stadium. From the Big House, participants run through downtown Ann Arbor, then wind their way through the panoramic University of Michigan campus. The marathon and half marathon courses also encompass stretches along the Huron River and Gallup Park and through Nichols Arboretum before returning to campus and downtown. All races end with a spectacular finish right on Main Street.*

MFF Race SeriesThe Probility Ann Arbor Marathon has been endorsed by the Michigan Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health, and Sports. All events of the Probility Ann Arbor Marathon are part of both the Pure Michigan FITness Series and the 2017 Michigan Fitness Foundation Race Series Championship. Our Featured Charity: Ozone House

ozone houseSince 1969, Ozone House has actively helped local young people lead safe, healthy, and productive lives through intensive intervention and prevention services, offering unique, high-quality housing and support programs and services that provide intervention, training, and assistance to runaway, homeless, and high-risk youth and their families. Through these support services, Ozone House helps youths develop essential life skills, improve their relationships, and enhance their self image so that they may realize their full potential for growth and happiness.

There are approximately 1,300 homeless youths in Washtenaw County. These resilient young people often move from one relative to another. They couch surf: sleeping on friends’ couches until they outstay their welcome, only to live on another friend’s couch for a short time, never acquiring the resources they need to find stability. Tragically, many endure trauma or exploitation in exchange for a place to sleep. Up to 40% of homeless youths identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, or Questioning. These youths are at higher risk than their peers for bullying, violence, exploitation, and discrimination.

Ozone House is available 24/7 to help youths get and stay out of these situations. Whether youths need shelter, housing, individual or family counseling, 1:1 support and life skills, a job, to enroll in school, or a hot meal, the door at Ozone House is always open. Please consider supporting Ozone House in this important work by making a donation during the registration process. Already registered? Click here to donate. For more information, visit the Ozone House web site.

  9. Queen Bee May 18, 2016 at 9:08 AM #

Would love to run this, but why would you host a marathon in Michigan in April? Do people train by climbing over snowdrifts and through ice? I don’t get it. Can you change it to June?

    • ana May 18, 2016 at 4:41 PM #

The marathon is actually normally held at the end of March (March 26 next year). We moved it to April this year because of Easter. When it was first held, it was in June. This caused a great many problems for the city of Ann Arbor, so it was moved to March a few years ago. We get thousands participating, regardless of whether it’s sunny or not. 🙂

  10. JJ December 15, 2016 at 12:41 AM #

I purchased medal engraving with my registration for 2017. I’m just wondering how that works. Will engraving be done on site or will an engraved plate (to go on the back of the medal) be mailed to me?

    • ana December 15, 2016 at 5:10 AM #

The engraving will be done on site on the actual medal. 😊

  11. Joshua January 26, 2017 at 10:03 AM #

I was hoping to find some more information for a sponsorship opportunity for our firm. Is there any still available?

  12. RKeller February 1, 2017 at 4:00 PM #

Where is the packet pick up on Saturday? I see nothing on the website for location of this.

    • Eva February 1, 2017 at 4:05 PM #

Packet pick up will be at the Hilton Garden Inn at 1401 Briarwood Cir, Ann Arbor, MI 48108 from noon – 4 PM. It is not on the website yet because we still have a few details to finalize.

  13. Volker February 21, 2017 at 11:34 AM #

maybe I missed the information: Could you tell me what the total elevation is for the marathon in feet or meters (both loops). Thanks

    • ana February 23, 2017 at 2:06 AM #

Our course elevation maps will be coming soon!

  14. Tara March 12, 2017 at 4:33 PM #

Hello! I was also wondering about the elevation. I was also wondering if this year the courses will be well marked.? Some of the reviews say their wasn’t clear direction and course route was unclear?:/ I hope it’s well marked, I’ve never ran this course before and I’m signed up for the half marathon! Regardless I am excited for this race!

    • ana March 12, 2017 at 4:49 PM #

Hi Tara! You’ll find the course elevation map by clicking the blue Course Maps button near the top of our site st http://www.theannarbormarathon.com. Our courses have plenty of signage and course marshals; the course is very clear! See you in two weeks!

      • Tara March 22, 2017 at 11:05 AM #

thanks for that response! I was also curious is there a lot of concrete running surface on the half marathon course or is it mainly on asphalt?? thanks so much! see you on race day! 🙂

        • ana March 22, 2017 at 12:47 PM #

The surface is mostly asphalt, with part of the course being dirt and gravel inside the Arboretum. There’s minimal concrete… unless you surpass the six-hour cut-off and have to move to the sidewalks!

      • Jerry March 25, 2017 at 10:54 PM #

The course definitely had problems in previous years with poor signage. Serious problems according to many reports where volunteers did little to help. I’m also hoping that this year it goes better. Looking forward to a good marathon tomorrow!

        • ana March 27, 2017 at 11:29 AM #

Hi Jerry! This event is under new management and we are aware of the past issues that affected the race. We are working to improve the Ann Arbor Marathon on all fronts. We’d appreciate your feedback, now that the 2017 event has been held. Thanks!

  15. Greg LaMarr March 28, 2017 at 2:41 PM #

Many thanks to pace setter Filip Boelen for his advice, good nature and encouragement!

  16. Stephanie Balch April 3, 2017 at 9:20 AM #

I had to leave promptly after my run last week and left out without my age group award. How do I go about getting that please?

    • Ana April 3, 2017 at 9:28 AM #

Stephanie, did you receive our two post-race emails? You’ll find details under the heading Event Awards in both emails.

Stephanie, can you please indicate where you read that? We have an entire section in our Policies page that lists instructions for how to have your age-group award mailed.

Hi Stephanie! Please check the date on that email. Because of the rain, we changed how we were handling awards. Please see the two emails we sent out after the race, one called “Way to Run the City” and one with a subject line “Awards, Gear-Check Bags, Race Shirts, and More!” You can also go to our Policies page and click Mailing Race Items.
