If one multisport challenge isn’t enough, try three! The Wolverine State Brewing Company Triathlon Series features three exciting events — the Island Lake Triathlon, the Battle of Waterloo, and the Ann Arbor Triathlon — with exciting challenges for individuals and teams, including the opportunity to win cash and prizes!
Signed up for one of our Series events and curious about the others? Here’s a quartet of compelling reasons why you’ll want to do all three:
Triathletes throughout Michigan have long considered Island Lake State Recreation Area an Epic training destination, ideal for any athlete preparing for a multisport event. This peaceful setting serves as the venue for the Island Lake Triathlon, featuring mini-sprint, sprint, and Olympic distance races, and athletes from all over the Wolverine State are invited to take part in the head-to-head triathlon action!
The first race in the Wolverine State Brewing Company Triathlon Series, the Island Lake Triathlon will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2017. You’ll swim the clear waters of Kent Lake, bike the park’s rolling, tree-lined hills, then run the panoramic final leg towards the finish line and your ultimate goal: the conquest of Island Lake.
Searching for a true test of your triathlon skills? Look no further than the Battle of Waterloo, featuring 10 legs totaling 42 miles that traverse the sprawling Waterloo Recreation Area, one of the most rugged and beautiful parks in the Midwest. You’ll bike remote roads, run winding dirt lanes, climb steep trails, and swim across three wilderness lakes… carrying your shoes and swim gear with you the entire time.
The second race in the Wolverine State Brewing Company Triathlon Series, the Battle of Waterloo will be held on Sunday, July 23, 2017. The Battle of Waterloo is the real deal: no cargo nets to climb, no pits of mud in your path, no monkey bars to maneuver through. The lake may be ice cold… or it may not. Our only threat of electroshock is a thunderstorm. Lilypad tangles and jungles of aquatic plants are amongst the obstacles you’ll encounter. Battle of Waterloo pits you against Mother Nature. Can you survive the adventure?
You’re no weekend running hobbyist. You’re the real deal. Other people’s workouts are your warm up. Wind, rain, and snow don’t faze you: just point you at a trail, mount you on a bike, aim you at a lake and you’re ready to roll. You’ve been waiting for the Michigan triathlon that’s just as tough as you. And now it’s here: the Ann Arbor Triathlon, the third and final event in our Triathlon Series. Just you and nature, baby… and beer at the finish line. Rock on!
The 2017 Ann Arbor Triathlon will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Halfmoon Lake in the Pinckney State Recreation Area, one of the largest state parks in all of Michigan. You’ll swim the open waters of Halfmoon, bike the rolling country roads of the surrounding rural area, then run the 5-mile classic Poto Trail course to complete your mission: showing the world that you’re a rock star. Got rock-star friends? Sign up for the Tri Team Challenge and compete for cash and prizes!
Join your friends from work, from your tri club, or from your neighborhood and join the Tri Team Challenge! Teams of five or more participants compete in each of the three events in the Series, vying for prizes at each event and in the overall series. Points are awarded for various achievements from signing up for the race to winning the race, and various achievements in between. Teams are scored via a point system:
The winning team after each race gets $100 plus a free entry to an Epic Races event. The winning team of the entire Tri Team Challenge series receives $500, so teams can win up to 3 free races plus $800.
This will be a real team bonding and cheering experience as each team will have a designated transition space and may set up a tent in the post-race celebration area. Teams with 10 or more members (minimum three females) at the first event of the series — The Island Lake Triathlon, June 3 at Island Lake State Rec Area — will receive their very own team feather flag, compliments of Epic Races, to display in the team transition area.
