The Original A2 Turkey Trot

Think “November” and visions of roast turkey undoubtedly come to mind. Epic Races invites you to envision — and experience — a totally different take on that famous fall bird with the A2 Turkey Trot. Join us on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Hudson Mills Metropark for this annual autumn tradition — the Ann Arbor area’s original Turkey Trot! — and enjoy a late-season run that is fun for the whole family!


Let’s Talk Turkey!

The A2 Turkey Trot features three different distances to whet your racing appetite:

  • a 5K loop around scenic Hudson Mills (paved trail with one small section of gravel)
  • a 10K course comprised of two 5K loops
  • a mile fun run for those who want just a taste of our Turkey Trot

For those who prefer a more sizable portion, there’s our Iron Turkey challenge: run both the 5K and 10K races, a total of 9.3 miles! If your feet love gobbling up the miles, then our Iron Turkey challenge is ideal for you! Don’t forget: the A2 Turkey Trot is walker friendly!

Feathering from Afar – A Virtual Race Option

If you have a race-day conflict that keeps you from joining us at Hudson Mills, no worries! Already on your way to Grandmother’s house for the holiday? Not a problem. Sleeping in on Saturday? That’s fine, too. You can now participate in the A2 Turkey Trot as a virtual racer! This means you choose to race where you want, when you want, and with whom you want. To become a virtual racer, select the “Virtual Race” option when you register for The Original A2 Turkey Trot. We will send you your shirt(s) and medals(s) on November 12, 2018.  We typically require virtual participants to complete the event before we send the goodies, but since we know you may want to run with your family on Thanksgiving morning, in your race shirts and with your medals waiting at your finish line, we are happy to send your goodies before hearing from you.

Please tell us about your Original A2 Turkey Trot 5K by heading to the 2018 A2 TurkeyTrot Facebook event page, “join” the event if you haven’t already, you can upload a photo of your GPS tracker showing your mileage and time, share a selfie or a photos of where you did your 5K, or post a comment telling us about it. You can also post your photos on Instagram and tag us (@epicraces) or tweet about it on Twitter and tag us (@epicraces). Be sure to use the hashtag #A2TurkeyTrot! Note: You do not need to report your 5K Run/Walk to us. We encourage you to post about your Virtual 5K via our social media, but it is not mandatory!

Looking to PR or finish by a certain time? The Ann Arbor Track Club will have its pace team ready to help you meet your goals! Look for them in the starting area; they’ll be holding signs showing which pace they’ll be running. There will be pacers available at the following paces for both the 5K and the 10K: 7:00, 8:00, 9:00, 10:00, 11:00, and 12:00. Note: it’s perfectly fine to change from one pace to another while out on the course. After all, it’s your race!

Putting Turkeys on the Table

Food Gatherersfood-gatherers-logo, the featured charity for the A2 Turkey Trot, is committed to distributing safe and nutritious food to 150 non-profit agencies and programs providing direct food assistance in the form of hot meals and emergency groceries to low-income adults, seniors, and children in Washtenaw County. Food Gatherers regards the gifts of food and money that it receives as a sacred trust to be administered for the most effective hunger relief possible. As you register for the A2 Turkey Trot, please consider making a donation to Food Gatherers to help put turkeys on the Thanksgiving tables of our fellow Washtenaw County residents. Please be sure to bring a donation of non-perishable food or fresh produce to their collection area at the A2 Turkey Trot on race day, Saturday, November 11. All donations collected on Saturday at the A2 Turkey Trot will be distributed in time for the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday.

Need more of an incentive to donate to Food Gatherers? When you give a gift of food, you receive a gift in return: Donate 10 canned items or $5 cash and receive a vintage Epic Races race T-shirt! For 20 cans or $10, you’ll receive three shirts and for 30 cans or $15, five shirts! One item of fresh produce (a head of cabbage, a squash, a bunch of radishes, a pint of cherry tomatoes, etc.) may be substituted for one canned item.



Park Information

Hudson Mills Metropark is located off North Territorial Road in Dexter. Entrance for cyclists and pedestrians is free, but there is a daily vehicle entry fee of $10. 2018 Vehicle Entry Permits are available for sale at any Huron-Clinton Metroparks location. Race Weekend Registration


Q. I signed up for the 5K but I think the mile is more my distance. Can I transfer to the mile?
A. You can switch from the 5K to the mile — or from any one distance to another — by logging in to your Run Sign Up account, clicking the My Registered Races button, clicking Manage Registration by the A2 Turkey Trot, then clicking the Transfer Event button and following the onscreen instructions. If you are transferring to the longer distance from a shorter distance, you will be charged for the difference in price between the events. NOTE: the deadline to switch events online is Saturday, November 3, 2018. You can also switch events in person at Packet Pick-Up.

Q. Can I transfer my registration to someone else?
A. Yes! Log into your Run Sign Up account, click the My Registered Races button, click Manage Registration by the A2 Turkey Trot, then click Transfer to Another Runner and follow the onscreen instructions. There is a $15 charge to transfer your registration to another event, as well as a Run Sign Up processing fee. NOTE: the deadline to transfer your registration to another person is Saturday, October 27, 2018.

Q. I ordered the wrong shirt size/style. Can I change this?
A. Yes! Log into your Run Sign Up account, click the My Registered Races button, click Manage Registration by the A2 Turkey Trot, then click the blue Giveaway button and follow the onscreen instructions. NOTE: we do not guarantee shirt sizes for those participants who register after Saturday, October 27, 2018.

Q. I can no longer attend. How do I get a refund?
A. By registering for an Epic Races event, you have purchased a ticket to participate in one of the most exhilarating and enjoyable races in Southeast Michigan. As with a ticket to any sports or entertainment event, there are no refunds if you are unable to attend.

Q. I can no longer attend. Can I get my race shirt and medal and bib sent to me?
A. We are happy to send you your race shirt and bib; please send a self-addressed, large padded shipping envelope (minimum envelope size is 13" X 16") with $5 affixed postage and a note stating your name, race, distance, and shirt size to us at Epic Races, 600 S. Wagner Road, Ann Arbor, MI, 48103 (details under Mailing Race Items on our Policies page). However, our finisher's medals are reserved for those who complete the race.

Q. Where do I park on race morning?
A. Parking will be available at Hudson Mills Metropark. Please note that there is a vehicle entry fee of $10 unless your car displays an annual Metroparks permit.

Q. What happens if it's raining on race day?
A. The A2 Turkey Trot will be held, rain, snow, or shine. Please be sure to dress accordingly for the weather.

Q. How many aid stations will there be?
A. There will be two aid stations on the 5K course (which 10K runners will pass twice and Iron Turkey runners will pass three times).

Q. Are jogging strollers allowed?
A. Yes! However, participants with jogging strollers may not race or run; they may only jog. Participants with strollers must remain courteous and respectful of all other participants; they must stay to the right of the course and may not weave in and out of the other participants. Children in jogging strollers must remain securely fastened in the stroller while on the course.

Q. Are dogs allowed?
A. No, dogs are not allowed on any of the event courses or at the post-race food area due to safety, security, and insurance reasons.

Q. Are headphones/ear buds allowed?
A. Yes, but we strongly encourage that you consider participating without portable music. This way, you will be able to hear the course marshals, as well as the spectators cheering for you. You will also be able to hear your fellow runners calling out that they are passing you.

Q. When will results be posted and where?
A. You'll find the results by clicking on the blue Results button at the top of this page. Results will be posted within 12 hours after the race ends.

Q. Can someone else pick up my race packet for me?
A. Yes! You can have someone pick up your packet for you if you are unable to make it to packet pick-up.

Q. My race shirt doesn't fit. Can I exchange it?
A. Yes! However, exchanges can only be done after the race and there is no guarantee of size.

Q. I left before results were posted and I won an award! How do I get it?
A. Congratulations! To receive your award, please follow the instructions outlined on our Policies page ( under Mailing Race Items.
