Event Details

Race Update: Tri Goddess Tri has been postponed to August 23 due to COVID-19. If you’d like to defer your registration to next year or transfer to another Epic Race follow the steps below. If you do nothing you will automatically be placed into the race on August 23.

Please note that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this event could possibly become a virtual event. We will announce the status of the race four weeks prior to the race date. At this time, registration is open for both the live event and the virtual event. If you choose the live event and we need to cancel, you will be automatically transferred to the virtual event unless you opt to defer to next year or transfer to another race.

To defer your registration to our 2021 race, please follow deferment instructions here. If you are choosing this option, please do so before May 17, 2020.

To transfer to another Epic Race, you will find all upcoming events, both “live” and “virtual” at To transfer your registration to any 2020 Epic Race follow these instructions. I HIGHLY recommend choosing a virtual race if you choose this option.

The first-ever all-women’s triathlon/duathlon in Michigan, Tri Goddess Tri is organized by women who know how to make your first (or hundredth!) triathlon tons of fun! The event is held just 12 miles west of Chelsea at the Portage Lake Unit of Waterloo State Recreation Area, surrounding our participants in scenery as beautiful and inspiring as themselves.

>> Water Safety

The Time-Trial Swim Start
We use a time-trial swim start. What does that mean? The swimmers line up on the beach and, at the race starter’s signal, enter the water individually at short intervals (usually three to five seconds). This is an alternative to the traditional wave start where a large group starts all at once.

Every member of the Epic Lifeguard Team has American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding Certification in addition to basic American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification. This means that our guards have all taken and passed an additional course in which they received training in the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to emergencies in non-surf, open-water areas. Our superbly trained lifeguards are yet another reason our races are so Epic! Our lifeguards are also able to keep our swimmers safe thanks to our official SUP company, Red Star Board Company. We’re very grateful to have Red Star as part of Epic team.

>> Special Divisions

All in the Family

Tri Goddess Triathlon offers our ladies two special awards divisions:

Mother-Daughter • Three Generations of Women

Spend a memorable day in Waterloo State Recreation Area running with your mother, daughter, grandmother, granddaughter, or a combination of these kin! The family that swims, bikes, and runs together has fun together, so gather your Goddesses and get ready to tri! Participating in these divisions will not preclude you from the regular Age-Group awards; they are in addition to the Age-Group awards, so be sure to create your Mother-Daughter or Three Generations of Women team when you register!

>> USA Triathlon

This race is sanctioned by USA Triathlon (USAT) therefore all participants must have an annual membership or purchase a one-day membership. These options will be available during the registration process. The annual membership fee is $50 and the one-day fee is $15. To learn more about USAT visit

Because our triathlons are sanctioned by USA Triathlon (USAT), we follow their wetsuit rules. Competitors may wear wetsuits if the water temperature is 78 degrees or lower. USAT rules also state that if the water temperature is between 78.1 – 83.9 degrees, competitors may wear wetsuits but will not be eligible for awards.

USAT Rule 4.4 Wet suits. When the water temperature is greater than 78 degrees, but less than 84 degrees Fahrenheit, age group participants may wear a wet suit at their own discretion, provided however that participants who wear a wet suit within this temperature range shall not be eligible for prizes or awards. Age group participants shall not wear wet suits in water temperatures equal to or greater than 84 degrees Fahrenheit. The wetsuit policy for elite athletes shall be determined by the USAT Athletes Advisory Council. The AAC has set the wetsuit maximum temperature for elite athletes at 68 degrees for swim distances less than 3000 meters and 71.6 degrees for distances of 3000 meters or greater. Any swimmer wearing a wetsuit with a thickness measured in any part greater than 5 millimeters shall be disqualified.
