As Swim Director, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of participant registration processes for our races.

Position Overview: As the Swim Director, you will play a crucial role in ensuring safety, accuracy, and overall quality of the swim course.

Position Summary
The Swim Director will supervise and manage all aspects of swim events. This includes coordinating swim course logistics, ensuring participant safety, setting the swim course, recruiting and managing swim staff, managing swim volunteers, and collaborating with event staff. The Swim Director plays a crucial role in creating a safe and enjoyable experience for participants while adhering to event regulations and standards.

The employee will be integral in helping Epic Races achieve its mission of professionally managing safe and fun endurance events that appeal to any level of fitness or athletic ability, are zero-waste, raise money and awareness for important causes, and make each participant feel like a champion.

Job Responsibilities

● Lifeguard Recruitment
     ○ Recruit, hire, train, and supervise lifeguards
● Course Planning
     ○ Design and plan swim courses that meet safety standards and regulatory requirements.
     ○ Collaborate with local authorities and relevant organizations to obtain necessary permits and approvals for the swim course.
● Safety Management
     ○ Develop and implement comprehensive safety protocols for swimmers, staff, and volunteers.
     ○ Conduct thorough risk assessments and coordinate with medical professionals to establish emergency response plans.
● Staff Communication
     ○ Provide clear and timely communication to staff regarding swim course details, safety guidelines, and any changes or updates.
● Volunteer Coordination
     ○ Train and manage a team of volunteers responsible for assisting with swim course setup, participant guidance, and safety monitoring.
     ○ Ensure volunteers are well-informed about their roles and responsibilities.
● Equipment and Supplies
     ○ Coordinate the procurement and maintenance of all swim-related equipment, including buoys, markers, lifeguard equipment, and safety boats.
     ○ Oversee the setup and breakdown of the swim course infrastructure.
● On-Site Management
     ○ Be present on-site during triathlon and swim events to oversee the swim portion and address any unforeseen issues.
     ○ Collaborate with other directors and staff to ensure seamless transitions between swim, bike, and run segments.
● Emergency Response
     ○ Coordinate with local emergency services to ensure a rapid and effective response to incidents during the swim leg.
     ○ Implement contingency plans in case of adverse weather conditions or other unforeseen challenges.
● Sanctioning and Insurance
     ○ Work with Race Director to sanction with governing body and ensure compliance with regulations and safety requirements.
● Post-Event Evaluation
     ○ Conduct a thorough evaluation of the swim portion after each event, gathering feedback from participants, staff, and volunteers.
     ○ Identify areas for improvement and implement changes for future events.

Desired Qualifications:

● Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Communication, Social Services, Business Administration, or Physical Education / Health & Human Performance or directly related experience preferred, but not required.
● Current Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard Certification.
● Open water safety and rescue training.
● Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with participants, volunteers, and colleagues.
● Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and effectively manage multiple priorities.
● Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as required by event schedules.
● Passion for endurance sports and a commitment to promoting health, wellness, and community engagement through endurance events.
